I am so very sorry to learn of Dooley's death. I have known the family since we all lived in "Old" Sun City. Our families used to have hugh gatherings for fish fry, swamp cabbage and vegetables grown by his family. I know that Dooly brought so much to the
community and will be missed by so many
beyond his family. I am also saddened to read that he was preceded in death by his sister Jean. I did not know. My heart goes out to the entire family.

I am honored to be doing his Life Tribute for you. As you know, I knew "Dooley" for many years and have always thought of him very highly. He did a lot for the community and our people. You have my deepest sympathy for your loss.

Every one of us who has ever had the distinct honor of knowing Dooley Houghtaling -- family, friends, professional associates, community at large -- has seen firsthand what courtly manners, sincere concern and caring for his fellow man, and love for Our Heavenly Father, are all about. Having been one of his sisters-in-law for over 35 years (Lillie is my late husband James Hurley's sister), I have been so fortunate to experience firsthand aquaintanceship with those fine qualities of Dooley's. The range of his intellectual and analytical abilities was amazing; the graciousness and humility of his everyday conversational abilities -- on any topic, however mundane -- was equally amazing. We have all lost a very special person from our lives, but he has left us the legacy of his example, quite possibly "a tough act to follow."
