Gus, I will miss our conversations and laughter; you were a great friend.
May 18, 2013
My deepest sympathies and condolences to the family and friends of Gus, he was part of our family for most of our adult lives and I considered him a brother during that time. I feel deep sadness that he passed on at such a young age, with so much still ahead of him.

Our lives diverged and went in different directions, so hearing of his sudden passing was a shock. I hope that Gus has found peace and comfort, and is with his parents and brother, experiencing the magic and wonder he always felt when he was in a beautiful new place.

I am at a loss for words. We shared many conversations on life and love and you had a heart of gold. You were, are and forever will be my friend. I will miss you greatly, but truly know that there is one angel in heaven making everyone smile and laugh. May you rest in my peace my sweet friend.

To the Schiefen and Reidy families: Gus was, indeed, a special person. I had the pleasure of coaching him at ND. He always had a smile, and was a true teammate to so many other players. In recent years, Gus became a dad, a CO and a chef...an accomplished man for sure...however, he remains forever a friend to so many! Gus will never be forgotten and is in our prayers...God Bless him and his family.

God must of needed someone special, you were one of the best I had the pleasure to work with, go to school and know. Please look down on all of us Correction Officers as we walk our blocks and posts. Most important thanks for the love of community you had.
