To the Poppleton family: we have known Lew for years, and always had fun with him, and his incredible sense of humor. Know that we will always hold dear many fond memories of Lew. He and his family are in our prayers...God Bless.
Alan,Billy & family Your Dad was a favorite customer of mine,, as he had an opinion on everything, was always correct and could always kid me about my country hubby Mert. The last time I talked to him was by phone while he still in Florida and we were wintering also.I also miss your mom, Joanie a great friend. Console one another.Mert & Judy Voorhees
I remember Uncle Lew when I was about 7 years old and he was 14 or so and we were playing catch with a regulation baseball. He told me to throw it to him as hard as I could and he would catch the ball with his bare hands. I wound up and chucked it with all my might and he grabbed it bare-handed and let out a big laugh and asked if that was all I had! I thought he was Superman. You know what? I still do...
Rest in Blessed Peace Uncle Lew.
Lew and I were best friends right from the beginning, when we lived two doors apart on Hoffman Street. So many happy memories of growing up together, playing cops and robbers, cowboys and Indians, messing about in Hoffman Creek, walking to George Washington School together. Here is a photo I took of him at age 11 - a skinny, red-haired boy, always good fun to be with and a loyal friend. Our paths diverged as we met life in different ways, but he and Joan did visit Jennie and me in England later on. I'm so sorry to hear of his death: his family and friends have lost someone whose good humor and kindness lightened their world and made it a better place.
Love and prayers to you, Kathie, and family in your time of sorrow. Will always remember him at the convenience store I stopped at everyday on my way to work. He will be missed by all.
