BLANCHARD, Vert
Loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather
Age 88 of Horseheads, NY. He was born January 19, 1925 in Erie, PA, son of the late Claude G. and Ethel (Sargent) Blanchard and passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Elcor Health Services. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Elizabeth (Gilbert); children Charles V. (Constance) Blanchard of Midland, MI; Edward S. (Barbara) Blanchard of Jamul, CA; Victoria J. Kendra of Deltona, FL; and Cynthia M. Griffith of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren Chaddrick and Jennelle Blanchard; Jamie, Andrew, and Bryce Blanchard; Michael Kendra; Bradley, Alissa, Caitlin and Derrick Griffith; great granddaughter Aubrey Griffith along with several nieces and nephews. Vert was a veteran of World War II and was a purple heart recipient; a member of the American Legion Post 154, and the Seventh Armored Division Association, and retired from Elm Chevrolet. He enjoyed many wonderful years of hunting, fishing, camping and boating with his family. He was also a great carpenter, and kept busy with projects for his children and grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave, Elmira on Sunday, April 14th from 2 to 5pm. His funeral service will be held there on Monday April 15th, at 11am. Committal prayers and interment, with military honors, will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Those wishing may remember Vert through donations to CareFirst ( formerly Southern Tier Hospice), 11751 E. Corning Rd., Corning, NY 14830.

I was very sad to see that Vert has left this earth. He was a good man and I know my Mom and Dad enjoyed their times with Jane and Vert. That generation is truly the salt of the earth. My sympathies to Jane and the "kids".
