Remembering Dick Trickle today and all he meant to the sport of racing but, more importantly, all he meant to all of you ... his family. I lost a son named Chad age 18 in September 2009 in a car accident. There is so much pain in the world and while we can't fix that we can remember a wonderful man who gave us many moments in life to cheer about.

My sister and I LOVED Dick Trickle growing up. Heck how could you not, he was great and best of all, he drove a purple mustang! I remember our purple dick trickle racing jackets we wore on Friday nights to Elko Speedway. Then when I was in jr high I got my picture taken of me in the white knight SA car. I was sitting inside and Dick was squatting next to me on the outside. How excited we were when he was driving with the big boys!! Rest in Peace Mr. Trickle! My thoughts and prayers go out to your family. You are and always will be my favorite driver!

My heart is filled with sadness. Dick Trickle was an icon in racing, and a friend to everyone! I grew up watching and following him, and I remember after one of his wins, getting a kiss on my cheek! Years later, he held my one year old son in his arms as I took a photo of them. I am so sorry that he was hurting so badly. My heart goes out to his family. What an awful way to lose your loved one.

The evening of Leo's funeral at a gathering at the Trickle home in Rudolph Dick informed me that his dad had been sustained by a feeding tube the last months of his life. I told Dick that my elderly mother was also being sustained by a feeding tube. He asked me what quality of life did I think that was for a person like her. I did not learn from a champion that evening how to get the most out of a race car. I did however learn from a champion how people should get the most out of their life. Less than a month later mother asked me to have her feeding tube be removed. I did not try to convince her otherwise like I had the many times before. Thank you Dick for helping me through that difficult day. Rest in peace in the loving arms of our Savior.

May 19, 2013
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I have great memories of Dick, lighting his cigarette in the garage and burning a few with him between test runs at Daytona. Also, up at Lake Placid, NY watching him drive a bobsled at the track there. He flipped it a couple of times but both him and his good friend Kelly were shaken up a little but all good. Dick was a wonderful person and loved by many and just a week ago I drove by his house and said to my wife, I need to go and visit him. I never did and now am upset with myself that I didn't.
Rest in peace my friend.

My deepest sympathy to the Trickle Family. One of my fondest memories of Dick Trickle was having him let us use one of his race cars in his garage to practice for a Hickory chamber of commerce sponsored "pit crew contest." I think he was glad we were not his real pit crew! RIP Dick!

Back in the late 70's when "Tricky Dick" ran the races in West Salem, WI - I was part of a group of girls that called ourselves "Dick's Angels" - we made T shirts stating that title and went to the races every week cheering him on! Godspeed - Dick's gone to the great racetrack in the sky!
