Charles E. Bashore Ferryboat captain for New York Waterway Captain Charles "Charlie" E. Bashore, 71, of Neptune, N.J., entered into eternal life on Friday, July 3, 2015. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2015, from 4 to 8 p.m., with a celebration of life service following at 7:30 p.m. at the Francioni, Taylor & Lopez Funeral Home, 1200 10th Ave., Neptune, N.J. Charlie was raised in Nutley, N.J., the son of the late Enos and Ethel (Hayman) Bashore. He was a ferryboat captain for New York Waterway in Weehawken, N.J., and counts among his finest accomplishments ferrying countless passengers and equipment to the New York Mercantile Exchange in the tragic days following Sept. 11, 2001. Charlie was also the captain of a number of private and commercial fishing boats in and around the New Jersey shore. He earned his captain's license while serving in the U.S. Navy piloting patrol boats in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam. His love of the water, boats, and fishing extended throughout his life. He and his wife and dog, Skipper, spent many wonderful days on the water. Prior to his position with New York Waterway, Charlie worked as a technical specialist in the computer field. Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Sidonia Gerardis Bashore. He is also survived by his daughter, Denise Guerin and her husband, Peter; son, Brian Bashore and his wife, Jennifer; stepdaughter, Christine Porter and her husband, Adrian, and stepdaughter, Kimberlee Gerardis; grandchildren, Thomas Henry, Lily, Colette, Brandon, Hailey, Meghan, Kelly, Jack, and Emily; and brother, Frank Bashore. Charlie was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Banks.
