Gussie L. Jordan, 71, made her transition on May 17, 2013. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, 99 Davenport Ave., Newark, N.J. Interment is at Hollywood Memorial Park, Kenilworth, N.J. Visitation is on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the church. Arrangements are by Whigham Funeral Home. Gussie was born in Morgan, Ga., and was a resident of Woodbridge, N.J. She was a retired healthcare assistant at Greystone Psychiatric Hospital. Gussie held an associate's degree in theology and served on the usher and deaconess board of First New Dawn Baptist Church, Newark, N.J.; she was a member of Gospel Chorus, and mother of Shiloh Baptist Church in Newark, N.J. Gussie was the beloved mother of Shelly Smiley (Cornelius), Luther McGriff Jr. (Valerie), Elaine Brown, Willie Chandler (Charmain), Michael Martinez (Jecinia), and the late Bruce B. McGriff; daughter of the late Eddie L. Hall and Bertha L. Williams; sister of Louise Hoppe, Willie Mae Washington, Lue Bertha Williams, Susie Bridges, Willie Lee, Eddie Sam, and the late Eddie James, Clarence and Clifford Hall and Betty Jenkins; grandmother of 18 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends.
