Marcella Oglesby Obituary
A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Morrow Memorial Methodist Church, 600 Ridgewood Rd., Maplewood, N.J. Interment is in Richmond, Va. Visitation is Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Whigham Funeral Home, 580 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Newark, N.J.
Born in Richmond, Va., and a resident of Maplewood, N.J., for 22 years, Marcella was a 1971 graduate of Virginia State University.
She was a social worker for the Newark public schools.
She was the loving wife of Linwood J. Oglesby; caring mother of Akilah L. and Dr. Malika S. Oglesby; adored daughter of the late Hugh and Thelma Mallory Sutton; special sister of Mandel, Reginald, and Derrick Sutton; cherished niece of Ardell Tillar (George), Mae Hudgins, Delores Mallory, and the late Robert Mallory.

It does not seem that it has been seven years since Marcella’s passing. As I indicated then I feel the same way now. Marcella was precious and a true co-worker and friend. As I mentioned earlier she is missed. Rest In Peace.

To Linwood and the Oglesby family – I just learned of Marcella's passing from a former colleague. Please accept my sincere condolences for her loss. We all worked together at NCC several years ago. Marcella always exhibited warmth and a caring spirit as she worked to help vulnerable children and families. I know she will be missed by you, her extended family, and her many friends. I pray that the Lord will bring you strength and comfort in the days ahead.

To the Oglesby family, I send heartfelt sympathy! I learned of Marcella's passing a few days, ago. I am sorry I was not able to attend the viewing or service. Our daughters were friends, and I enjoyed talking with Marcella. May her soul rest in peace.

To Marcella's family; I first met your mother shortly after you moved to New Jersey. We met through work. Marcella was passionate about making sure that we did what was best for children. Her spirit was strong and sure. May you be comforted in knowing that she made a difference for many who needed what her talents could bring. She was a warrior for children.

Marcella, I will miss hearing your voice at the other end of the phone Always encouragement for Brad. I don't know if people know it but you were the first female drum major aka majorette for the HISTORIC HIGH SCHOOL aka Armstrong High school. I was so proud to say that was you and my Aunt Tissy was the same at the HOSTORIC Maggie L Walker. There was only one thing you loved more than a great party and that was FAMILY. Thank you for being there for Brad. That means so much to him and he is so sad to have to let you go so soon He wants me to tell you he loves you too. You are in Gods arms now so we know your are gonna be okay. Love you! Didn't want you to go so soon but God had other plans. I can see you high stepping in Heaven.

I'm SO sad about Marcella's passing!! My last conversation with her was with Dorthaan Kirk as we stood outside her home while Lynwood was cutting the grass. She was still humorous, upbeat and positive about her recovery! Always a breath of fresh air! Determined, driven, caring, loving; she will be missed!
