Scott Fisher Obituary

Scott L. Fisher of Long Branch, N.J., passed away Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, at Overlook Medical Center, Summit, N.J. Visitation is Monday, Sept. 12, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Woolley Funeral Home, 10 Morrell St., Long Branch, N.J. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael's R.C. Church, Ocean Ave., Long Branch. Interment follows in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. You may light a candle of condolence by visiting www.woolleyfh.com. Scott was born in Red Bank, N.J., and lived in West Long Branch, N.J., before moving to Long Branch 16 years ago. He was a parishioner of St. Michael's R.C. Church, Long Branch. Scott received his A.A. in library media technology in 1978 from Brookdale Community College; his B.A. as an educational media specialist in 1980 from Kean University, and his M.L.S. in 1983 from Rutgers University, Graduate School of Library/Information Studies. In 1980 Scott taught and was a librarian for the West Long Branch Board of Education. In 1982 he became the director of library services at the law firm of Robinson, St. John & Wayne, Newark, N.J. In 1996 he took the same position at Wilentz Goldman & Spitzer, Newark, until 2006, and then served as director of library services at McCarter & English, LLP, Newark, until his death. Scott's work was published three times in leading legal publications in New Jersey. He was appointed to the National West advisory board and in 2002 was a faculty member teaching research in private law libraries in a program created by LexisNexis. The president of the N.J. Law Librarians Association from 1988 to 1989, Scott was the editor of the association's newsletter from 1989 to 1990 and again from 2002 to 2004. He was a member of the American Association of Law Libraries, American Bar Association, American Library Association, Monmouth Librarians Association, New Jersey Law Librarians Association, New Jersey Library Association and the New Jersey State Bar Association. Scott was predeceased by his parents, Mae Hoffmann Fisher in 2010, and U.S. District Court Judge Clarkson S. Fisher (whom the federal court house in Trenton is named after) in 1997. Surviving Scott are three brothers and two sisters-in- law, A. James Fisher and Dana Warner Fisher, Greensboro, N.C.; N.J. Appellate Court Judge Clarkson S. Fisher Jr. and Carolyn Sullivan Fisher, Oceanport, N.J., and Daniel R. Fisher, London, England; and five nieces and nephews, Daniel C. Fisher, Anna F. Kohansky and her husband Matthew, Clarkson S. Fisher III, Caylan S. Fisher and Cilloran S. Fisher. Contributions in Scott's memory may be made to Overlook Medical Center Foundation, 99 Beauvoir Ave., Summit, N.J. 07902.
