Conrad D. Helble, 86, of Cedar Grove, N.J., passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2014.
Visitation will take place at O'Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick, N.J., on Monday, April 28, 2014, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Dominic's Church, Brick, on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at 9 a.m., followed by interment with military honors at Brig. Mr. Helble was born in Union, City, N.J., and grew up in Bloomfield, N.J.
He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II, having been stationed in the Aleutian Islands.
Afterwards, Mr. Helble began his career in law enforcement as a motorcycle officer with the Bloomfield Police Department before joining the Essex County Sheriff's Department. He rose through the ranks until retiring as deputy warden of the Essex County Jail in 1983.
Mr. Helble was a past exalted ruler of the Cedar Grove Elks Lodge 2237.
He was predeceased by his parents, Conrad and Gertrude (Petterson) Helble. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Louise (Esposito), as well as by his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Thomas Warzynski, of Brick.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kimberly, Jillian and Jonathan Warzynski, and his sister, Lorraine Bobby, of California, as well as other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Helble's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2310 Hwy. 34, Suite 1D, Manasquan, N.J. 08736.
