Today, I opened my weekly copy of Sports Illustrated to learn of the passing of Bill Skowron. One of my earliest fond recollections was attending a Yankees-Tigers game in old Briggs Stadium in Detroit in 1957. I was wearing a Yankees uniform which my father had bought me. Our seats were near the Yankees bullpen. On that day Bill was standing in the bullpen with a few Yankee relief pitchers; he noticed me in my uniform, smiled, pointed up to me and let his teammates know they had a Yankees fan to support them. It was a moment that I've treasured all these years and have nostalgically recalled when my own sons wore the uniform as small children. Thank you for the memories, Bill. (Toronto, Canada)
