When my daughter was around a year old she was constantly getting ear infections. At that time doctors wanted to put tubes in her ears. That was a scary thought for us because it meant surgery. One day my wife came home and told me that she was taking my daughter to a chiropractor in Northfield that she had heard about from a friend. I looked at her and said "a chiropractor, what for?" Well, I never would have guessed that a chiropractor could help ear infections. Dr. Hornnes adjusted my daughter and told my wife to take her off milk products until after the age of three. I thought they were both crazy when my wife told me what he suggested. We went along with it. Weeks, months and eventually years went by and not one ear infection after that. He explained that some kids sinuses are not completely developed or large enough to handle milk (it congests them) especially when they have a cold. The milk caught in these small passages is like a breeding ground for bacteria. Needless to say all of this made me more curious in finding out what else he could help cure. I soon became a patient of his. I was a patient of his for nine years and it is amazing what he could fix without the help of drugs or surgery. During my visits he would always talk about his daughters, wife and other family members. You could just tell how much he loved and how proud of his family he was. He talked about how his dad was such a hard worker. Obviously he took after his dad in that aspect. Kurt was not only a doctor to me but a friend. I am forever indebted to him for helping my daughter. "They" always said when you have a daughter they are just a little bit closer to your heart. That was the same for Kurt, he was always talking about his daughters. Kurt was an all around stand up guy. I'm going to miss you Kurt.

The Lord be with you. Kurt is now with his heavenly family.
But all of us will miss him greatly. What a shining example for his girls, remember always his love for you. He was so proud of you and you could tell the great feelings he had for you. There are so many of us that owe Kurt our undying gratitude for making our lives better--both physically and because of his caring attitude.

Kurt treated me for two years after a bad motorcycle accident. If it wasn't for his care and understanding, I would not be functioning near as well as I am. My prayers go out to his entire family. He will be sorely missed by all. Blessings

To Kurt's Family & Friends: I was so shocked & very saddened to hear of Dr. Kurt's death. It's still difficult for me to believe. My heart goes out to you. I met Dr. Kurt at an Expo over 13 years ago. I was so impressed with his knowledge of alternative health care strategies, such as Laser Therapy, that I invited him to speak to several college classes I was teaching. Some of my students became his chiropractic clients, as did I. I even brought my mom to him as a client too!
He was one of the most kind, insightful, intelligent & fascinating persons I have ever met. He also had such a delightful sense of humor & welcoming smile and laugh. His empathy in treating me as a client was unequalled. When I had severe knee problems, he seemed to care about my health more than I did. When my dad had two brain surgeries in 2010 & my beloved young cat went blind due to glaucoma, his understanding & empathy was so greatly appreciated.
I'd like to say to his daughters that he was so proud & happy about you. He also thoroughly enjoyed playing softball. His was an adventurous, open-minded spirit. He helped heal so many people, not only physically in his chiropractic practice, but emotionally as well. I will miss him a lot. But I also believe he is with his beloved mother & father now too. Maybe he is an angel still, looking down upon us & still helping to heal us. He had such a great love of people & animals.
May God bless & comfort all of his family & friends. I am praying & thinking of you a lot. Take care of yourselves, as Dr. Kurt would want you to do. In Much Loving Sympathy,
Ms. Carm(illa) Tenhoff

Sheri and Family,
So sorry for your loss of a kind, gentle, amazing, caring and so knowledgeable. Sheri, I never met you, but you were one lucky lady to have him as your husband. His girls are so lucky to have had Kurt as your Dad. He talked about you all the time and all the ski trips you were on and how proud and concerned he was of both of you. the pictures he had on the walls of you. Kurt has been the Chiropractor for my husband and I for many years over 11 years. He also helped my kids through chiro issues that they needed during this time. Kurt will be missed so much and will never be forgotten. He did have a way of making your day.

September 6, 2013

I have known Kurt for over 40 years. He was big and strong, gentle and kind. Kurt loved his profession and as a result he changed my wife' life. We are both grateful beyond words. The memories of our time together will never be lost and I am so lucky our paths crossed in life. Karen and I loved Kurt and will never forget his family and wonderful staff at the Northfield Office. Our trips back to Minnesota will never be the same. Mark and Karen Haws

Kurt was one of the special people you never forget. Whether it was waxing skis for a ski race at 1 in the morning or hanging out at Mt. Hood, there was no one more fun to be around. And Kurt always made you feel better about yourself when you were around him. He was an incredible and dedicated father who was always there for Jamie and Jesse. He was there for my kids on many occasions as well. I will be forever grateful to Kurt for taking such good care of my mother and my aunt when they went to his clinic. There was no one better than Kurt, that's why my mother drove religiously from Maple Grove to Northfield to visit him at the office. Kurt went above and beyond the call for everyone. We can't afford to lose the great ones like Kurt. I will never forget Kurt and the many things he did for me and my Family. Thank you Kurt!

The love between Kurt and Sheri was truly one of a kind. The way he looked at her would melt any heart. Every time Sheri spoke of his name her smile would grow bright and the joy of even speaking his name would light up her face.
That joy and light will be with you forever Sheri. I wish only the best for you and your family. I will always be here for you.....today, tomorrow and ten years from now.
With love,

I first meet Kurt 5 years ago. I was impressed with him from the onset and have remained impressed since. I think alot of C-words, exemplify Kurt, compassionate, caring, considerate, competitive and CLASS. I always enjoyed conversations with him and left each one feeling uplifted. Softball for me will be less from now on without him being there, either as a teammate or an opponent. Good bye my friend, until we meet again in a better land.

My deepest sympathy to Kurt's family. Kurt and I met as 3 year olds tagging along to our sisters girl scout meetings with our moms. He was a wonderful friend and has always been in my life. I think of the childhood memories of cub scouts, little league, high school. He even came out to visit me and we had a night to remember in SF. Kurt took his profession to an extraordinary level. His softball play incredible. He is an original and has had a real impact on my life. I will miss you my dear friend

My deepest sympathy to the Hornnes family. I played broomball with Kurt many years ago and played ball against him many times over the years. A class act all the way! and a great gentleman in life, he will be missed by many

Being from Northfield, I got to know Kurt from the Northfield Softball League. I eventually started playing on the same teams with him out of the Cities in some fall leagues and fall tourneys. Then in 1997 and 98 we got together again with a great team. What a competitor. One of the best I have known. A great love for the game and a great will to win. My sympathy goes out to the family. September 4, 2013

Sheri,
May Kurt's healing spirit and infectious laugh always be with you, your family and friends? He put many of us back on feet and brought normality to our lives. He was a day maker and a guy for the ages. In Feb of 2009 I submitted Kurtie's MN USSSA Hall Of Fame letter of recommendation, a microcosm of who he was and how I and others who wittnessed his play felt about his softball career;

February 10, 2009

Dear Gerry Turnberg and Hall of Fame Committee.

Please consider Kurt Hornnes as a candidate for the MN USSSA Hall of Fame

The hall deserves Dr. Kurt Hornnes and Kurt belongs.

He is the epitome of a MN softball player. He has had an awesome career and made the difference in lot of games and lives along the way. To him softball was more than just a game. He relished the challenges, the success and failures along the way. It humbled him and made him a better person.

He worked out hard in the off season to better himself and was an inspiration to others. Your team could only get better if Kurt was there.

Kurt was a standout, an offensive juggernaut (see his stats on the attached application) and always sought out the best competition and played on some of the best teams assembled in the state of MN and beat the number one team in the world (Steel's) while playing for Sports Heroes. Even in Kurt's later years when he was the most senior guy on his “A” squad, he was always atop the leader board for slugging percent and hits in the clutch. Kurt did not shy away from the best competition but sought it out and relished the opportunity and the challenges as they presented themselves. He didn't play on your father's local church team and there were many an infielder that prayed he won't come their way.

Kurt has been a great spokesman for the game and a solid citizen both on and off the field, a sponsor and coach's delight. Softball teams are full of challenged characters and it is safe to say Kurt was not one of them. He had a great respect for the game and the game respected him. Softball is a more dignified, civilized game when Kurt is on the field and a better game for all to play.

Kurt was always surrounded by great players, because great player won't have it any other way. They gravitate to one another with a common goal. To beat the best you must play with the best. One great player cannot win a tournament alone, but a team of great players have a fighting chance and he understood this simple philosophy and was willing to move down in the batting order to satisfy the needs of the team and was always up for competing for his spot in the line-up.

His brand of play was contagious and he had a knack for handling pressure when it counted. After all Kurt is a doctor first and a player second. He relishes the challenges on the field as much as he cares for his patients in the office. He was always a tough out when the chips were down. Keeping ones cool in the face of adversity is primary in the heat of the battle and requires clear thinking when you need it most. If the game was on the line and you needed a hit or a ball to be caught, I always liked my chances with Kurtie.
”Pat Stachfield, Sterling Heights Michigan,@ the Mens Major 40 & OVER National Championship Game 1998”.

In closing thank you for considering Dr. Kurt Hornnes as a candidate for the Minnesota USSSA hall of fame and I look forward to your response.

Sincerely

Tom Kubalak

Sheri and family, my deepest sympathy; as a team mate and friend for almost 20 years, he was passionate about the game but more importantly his team mates. The camraderie amongst the team was very important to him and his competitiveness was second to none. He will be missed by all, I know as my wife was struggling through breast cancer this year I missed all my team mates, he would call and text to check up on her, and see how I was doing.
