To the family of Lt. Col. John D. Loftis:
John gave the ultimate sacrifice and will be held in the hearts of Americans forever. I cannot and will not let our fallen heroes be forgotten. My deepest sympathy to you. "Some gave all."

I am sorry to say I just recently became aware of Lt Col Loftis' death. I was in his flight at OTS and he was an outstanding OT. My prayers go to his surviving family.

Darin was a high school friend in Kentucky and a shining star in our class. His intellect and kindest was always great. He was special from the start. I have and will continue to pray for his family.

LTC Loftis was a great leader and a great person. We served together in Kabul assigned to the National Police Coordination Center. I was on leave when I heard the devastating news. To this day, I am shocked and sad of losing a true leader and friend.

I am so sorry to hear of his loss. What a man. My heartfelt condolences.

I just watched the NYT video article and was so touched by LTC Loftis's contribution to repairing relations in Afghanistan. As an American currently living and working in the Arabian Gulf region, I know firsthand how much of a positive impact someone like him can have. His death is truly a loss for both the US and Afghanistan. My heart and thoughts go out to his wife and two daughters - you have been blessed too briefly with this amazing man.

What a great loss the passing of this fine man brings - to his family, his friends, his community and his country. The loss of opportunity for the people of Afghanistan to continue working with such a man is inestimable and one can only wonder at how much more he could have achieved in moving towards real peace had he been granted more time on earth. We shall never know but certainly his life and his story have touched many.
Sincere good wishes to his family who must, for now, make their way without his guiding hand but for whom he has left an amazing legacy.

I read about John Loftis in the New York Times in how he knew Pushto and talked about winning hearts and minds. he seemed like a really nice guy. I am originally from Pakistan and I am very saddened by the loss of this gentleman. No one should have to die over a piece of paper. It is absolutely horrible. I hope he rests in peace and that his family has the courage to survive without him. We need more people like him who are peaceful, have an understanding of muslims and his loss is our loss. May you rest in peace, John.
