I met Hilary and Emily when we were students at Montessori. Nancy was always so kind.

After college graduation, I worked in my field for nine years before resigning to stay home with my two young daughters. In the three years I have been away from work, I have realized that I need a new career. I spent several sessions with a career counselor before making a major decision and commitment. I paid off my first college loans in November and started school again in January. After all this time, Nancy has been my biggest inspiration. Every time I think about the time commitment I am making, I think to myself, "Well, Hilary Crook's mom did it with two little girls." Every time I think about tuition, I tell myself, "Nancy English did it." When I am bogged down with homework, PTA duties and my normal parenting responsibilities, I think, "Well, she managed to juggle all of it. So can I." She made such an impression on me. I have not seen anyone in your family since I moved on to middle school, but the impact Nancy had on my life lasts to this day. Please accept my condolences on your loss. It is clear she has touched many people and changed many lives.

As we approach the elevators and get off on the 3rd floor, I think we all await that moment when it will become easier to get through our day. In your honor, we continue our high standards of patient care. We smile through our grief and hold back our tears hoping that tomorrow we'll awaken from this terrible dream. It's like we are holding our breath and waiting to see you scurrying around the corner with that smile on your face. Reality strikes when we see your empty chair. Your little glasses are missing and your white coat is gone. That silly laughter of yours has become like one of those moments of uncomfortable silence. Your collection of stuffed characters is absent, along with the usual half bottle of Diet Coke and your healthy snacks for the day......

We miss you......Your spirit is vibrant, resonating with the clarity God intended for you to embed in the souls of all the lives you touched. You are our angel and inspiration.

You are sadly, yet so fondly missed. Your legacy is as profound as our adoration for you....you will never be gone~you will live forever in our hearts.

Knowing you has been a blessing and an honor.

To Nancy's family and friends - As a long-time patient of Nancy's I extend my deepest sympathy. She was a gifted and kind physician and person, with a rare talent for relating to patients as though they were friends. She shared her life with us, and drew us out to talk about ours. I will miss her caring concern, wit and humor.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Dr. English's death. I am one of the many family medicine physicians she helped train during her time in Duluth. I learned so much from her during my three years in Duluth. Most importantly she taught me the joy of medicine and how to balance your life. She will be missed, not only in Duluth but anywhere those whose lives she touched are.

To the family of Nancy English Crook; I send My deepest sympathy and love. Nancy was a wonderful person and doctor and I will miss her immensely. She always had a friendly smile and demeaner when she greeted her patients. She was always joketive. She was a kind and thoughtful person. While it is never a fun thing to go to the doctor unless it's just a check up, she made the visits far more tolerable. I know you all must be suffering her loss greatly, as we all are, but know that she will always be with you in spirit and that you are not alone in your mourning her death. We will all miss her greatly.

To the family of Dr. English I send my deepest sympathy. Nancy was my doctor for more than 10 years and as many people have said, her sense of humor, talent and patience are what have made her special to her patients as well as her friends, family and colleagues. What a wonderful, talented, beautiful, kind and humorous person. I will miss our visits immensely. I will miss our converstions and her humor as we discussed topics such as cheese and how she had faith that the pharmacy would "screw it up" in regards to a med. change. We also discussed cakes and such things and I was amazed at her calmness and professionalism when she contacted my pharmacy and thought to myself, "How does she do it?" Her death is a shock to me as well as everyone else and I pray that God will console and comfort her family, friends, and close colleagues. What a tremendous loss to humanity and our community.

Thank you Dr. English for your patience, skill, love, kindness and tolerance. I will miss seeing that blonde hair and your stuffed animal clip on the collar of your white jacket, and especially your wonderful, kind self.

With greatest sincerety, Nancy Miller

Dear Tom, Hilary and Emily,

You are in our thoughts and prayers.
It's unbelievable what happenend. We are still shocked.
We can't find words to express our deep grief...
Nancy was like a mother to all of us when we lived with your family. She was one of the most admirable and talented woman we knew and will ever know. All three of us girls still remember how full of energy she always was. No matter what she did she was always full of passion.
Especially we both (Carolin and Caren) are so thankful to her that she organized such a great rotation at Duluth clinics for us. It was so great to see how much she loved being a doctor and more than that helping people.
She will be a great role model as a doctor as all three of us will become a doctor one day. Claudia, for example, decided to go to medical school when she was able to accompany Nancy at a birth.
There is so much more to tell about Nancy.
We are very blessed that we have had such a wonderful "American mum".
We will NEVER forget her.
We stay in touch!
Always Love,
Your German girls,
Caren, Carolin and Claudia

My Mom and Dad (Tom and MaryAnn) are good friends of Tom and Nancy's. Until the Fargo Marathon this year, I hadn't seen Nancy for several years. She was stunning and full of life. My first memory of her was from when I was 7 years old. I had been recently adopted by my parents, and she was pregnant with her first daughter, Hilary. I remember thinking that she was beautiful and looked like an angel. I'm certain now, that she is one.
