Diane Dunagan Obituary

Diane Elaine Dunagan Diane Elaine Dunagan, age 52, passed away on June 15, 2013 in Austin, Texas. Diane was born on May 25, 1961, in Herkimer, New York, to Mr. and Mrs. Wiley J. Wildey. Diane graduated from Lanier High School in 1979 and later worked for Farm Credit Bank where she met her husband, Richard. Rick and Diane made their home in the Austin area where they raised their family. She is known as being the mom at every field trip, soccer game, baseball game, and every possible football game her health would allow. She found tremendous joy spending time with her boys and teaching them what they would need to know in later life. Diane was also known for her amazing positive attitude, her warm, inviting smile, and her motto of "Life is Good." This smile and spirit never shined brighter than it did during her five year battle with cancer. Even through pain she lived her life with a grateful heart and considered each day a gift and blessing from God. Diane was a member at the Westover Hills Church of Christ and was also very involved with Brentwood Christian School where her boys attended. Nothing mattered more to Diane than her faith and helping others find Christ. Her desire was to be remembered for having a servant's heart before as well as during her illness. Diane served as a Den Leader and committee member for Brentwood Christian Cub Scout Pack 179 for several years. She saw four out of five boys in her original Tiger den obtain the ultimate rank of Eagle Scout, including her own son, CJ, in 2011. Spending time in nature and hiking with those she loved was her greatest refuge. She and her brother, Danny, were known to find adventure without trying while on a trail. The story is told of their coming upon more than one bear as well as Diane almost sliding off a cliff just to get a better look at a waterfall in Yellowstone. Diane often found it ironic she survived that episode only to be beaten by some tiny cells called cancer. Diane was preceded in death by her sister, Donna Wildey, in 2010. She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Richard; three sons, Zachary Thomas Clendenen, Christopher James "CJ" Dunagan, and Nicholas Dell Dunagan; her parents, Wiley Jay and Ethelyn 'Joy' Wildey of Tow, Texas; one brother, Daniel Jay Wildey of Euless, Texas; and numerous friends who held a precious, special place in her heart. The family will be receiving friends and family from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home. A Celebration of Diane's Life will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at the Westover Hills Church of Christ, 8332 Mesa Drive in Austin, Texas. In keeping with the theme of Diane's life, it is her request that all those who wish to, would wear a "Life is Good" shirt to her celebration. A private family burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Brentwood Christian for the Diane Dunagan Scholarship Fund, 11908 N. Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78758. The family also expresses their deepest gratitude to Dr. Demetrius Loukas, Texas Oncology, her nurses, and to so many special friends who hiked this journey with Diane. We will be forever grateful. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North I-35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660. Rick and kids, I am so sorry for your loss. I know you will miss Diane so much. I only got to know her through Celeste. I wish I could have truly known her. I believe she was a wonderful lady and very God fearing. We have been praying for Diane and you over the past five years. May God bless each of you with precious memories of Diane and your life together. May those memories carry you through out your lives and be a comfort to you. Know that you haven't truly lost her she is within each of you. If you close your eyes you will be able to see her again. May God bless each of you. Know that our prayers are with you through this trying time.

Diane, you are the best of best friends. We can go long periods of time without seeing or visiting and when we do it is like we just saw each other the other day. You are a true friend in every since of the word and I know I will miss very much and I have been blessed with knowing you. Rick and the boys, I am so very sorry for your loss. Diane loves all four of you so very much.

Diane is truly a blessing to everyone who knows her and to countless others who have and will benefit from the love she shared. Rick, you are a rock-solid example of a husband who loved his wife from the depths of his heart and never retreated nor waivered from your faithful commitment to Diane "in sickness and in health." Zack, CJ, and Nicholas, I know you will miss your mom, and she fought hard to stay here as long as she could to have as many memories with you as possible. You still have her love. I pray that should God bless you with wives and children that you will love your wife as much as your Dad loved your Mom and love your children as much as your Mom and Dad love you.

Rick, so sorry to learn of Diane's passing. Please know that you and your family are in my prayers. Once saw this in an Austin cemetery, "life is a dream; dying is waking up". A really comforting thought as Diane begins an everlasting journey.

Life is good.
It's not painful, sad, hopeless, or unfair.
Life is good
It's not short-lived, miserable, guilt ridden, or unjust.
Life is good.
The sentiment expressed in those 3 words explains who Diane was and what she truly believed.
Her faith rewards her now with a life promised -forever with Jesus.
There is no doubt that we who are left might consider life a bit "less" good now.
Do we miss the message?
We can choose to honor a legacy lived.
Life is good.

Our hearts and prayers are with you all.

You are all in my prayers and thoughts. To Diane's sons, I lost me dad 6 years ago, and losing a parent is very difficult to go through, but having your dad, and family around to help you get through this, along with God being by your side, helps a lot. I heard many times of Diane's vivacious zest for life from my Momma(Susan Powell). She spoke of Diane with such affection and how much she was touched by her life. I did not know Diane personally but heard of her passionate living through my Mom and here dear friend Sharon. Rest in peace beautiful Diane-enjoy the wonder of being in our King's presence!

I will miss my friend, but it helps when you adore the rest of the family. :) I am so sorry for your loss, but in reality all who knew her have a GAIN. So honored and privileged to have been a small part of her journey. Lindsey sure would like to be here, but she'll be here for Nick for a long, long time. We're already planning on evaluating his girlfriends/fiance/wife and, when we approve, to do girlie things with her. Our hearts are humbled, though, when we look at our inward pain. There will be many times for that, so we look forward to the Celebration! What a gift from God.
