Margret Hofmann has a permanent place in my heart. I was hired in November of 1963 as an organbuilder by her husband Otto and was part of the family until 1965. I admired her for her rational responses to events such as the twin tower tragedy in 2001.
I will miss Ms Hofmann,I met her thorough my job as a Medical Assistant, when she would come in to our office she always had something to share, whether it was spiritual or something that she felt had to be done or wanted to do. She was always going here and there to speak. Even though I never had the opprotunity to hear her give one of her talks, I feel I was blessed to know her. When she came to the office, I had one and one time with her. She is a legend not only in Austin, but to so many people. Her Legacy will live on in you ,her family and those she has touched with kidness. Blessings and Graces always,
This was one amazing lady. The world needs more people like her.
I am saddened to hear of Margret's passing. She was a very good person and citizen.Que vaya con Dios! My condolences to her family.
There are no words to describe this loss. All we can do is pray that we can find peace and go on. I know Margret would want her loved ones to celebrate her life along with the tears. My prayers go out to you all.
With great love for this single life that mattered so much, created so much good - may her spirit stand as tall and strong as the TREES she protected. Condolences to the family.
My condolences to the Hofmann family. She was a fine lady. I was Director of the Environmental Office when she was on the City Council and we were proud to develop the first Tree Ordinance.
Wishing the family strength at this time of loss, and to the city of a pioneer for the greater good of all.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Hofmann family. Margret was an amazing woman, and I thoroughly enjoyed our conversations as we worked together on her oral history. I only wish we'd had the time to finish.
So sad to hear of her passing. Prayers to the whole Hofmann family.
Thank you for taking such good care of our city.
Condolences from the Richey Family
I helped Margaret plant trees on school campuses in Austin. She was a great advocate for the environment, and wanted the city to stay green. She also wrote movingly of her life in Germany, of privations most of us here have never experienced. Those who knew her will miss her energy and her convictions. My condolences to her family.
Margaret was an amazing woman. She will be missed by many. She cared about everyone. She will continue to be living in our memories and hearts along with the stuff she taught us threw the years. I send my love and Prayers to all of her family. God be with all of you...
I never had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Hofman but have been friends with her daughter Anna for years. Anna spoke of her mother with love and rescept and I know she was a huge part of her life
but has comfort in knowing that her Mother is with her sweet little angel Katy in heaven now rejoicing. My thoughts and prayers are with the Hofman family at this time of loss.
Praying for your peace , God Bless.
I will never forget putting up signs all night for Margret's city council campaign. It was like a small high school pep rally and most of us were about high school age. She was a special woman.
I heard about Margret from her amazing daughter Anna and granddaughter Kristi. I remember thinking I would love to meet her someday! Then I met her a few years ago. She was so funny and told great stories. I'm glad I had the chance to met her. I hope someday I can me as amazing as her. I know she will be missed. Sending lots of love and positive vibes to the family.
Anna and family ~ Wish I had meant your mother. She was so fascinating and I still think someone should write her life story. I read the story she did for the Austin paper a few years ago and wrote to the writer at the paper and told him I wanted more! He told me he would love to write a book with her but that would be a decision your mom would have to make. She was an amazing gal and will certainly be missed.
Margret, Carolyn & Sam were co-grandparents to her son Steve & wife Angela's twins & young daughter. We have always had great respect for Margret and admiration! She was an amazing lady & will be missed greatly!
I always loved my great aunt's beautiful German accent. I enjoyed listening to her talk. She had a very sincere and lovely smile. I wish I had spent more time with her at the last family gathering I attended. My youngest son Patrick said he wanted to talk to her again this year because she was so full of information and so willing to share it. Go in Peace Aunt Margaret and rest in the loving arms of our Lord. I will miss you but will always cherish our time together. Love you and truly feel you were a one of a kind special Lady with so much to give to this world.
I am not only blessed to have known Mrs. Hofmann, but I am blessed to have heard life stories of bravery, strength, determination, passion, kindness, humanitarianism, and love that came from Mrs. Hofmann's heart. I remember the sleep overs at Anna's house and how I was always made to feel as though I was a member of their family. Mrs. Hofmann was a remarkable woman in so many ways. Sending my condolences and prayers to Anna and her family.
Margret was one of the most extraordinary people I have known, and an inspiration to generations of Quakers here in Austin. I will miss her very much.
I remember Mrs. Hofmann as being very gentle, kind, soft-spoken, and an amazing mother. She made me my very first poached egg for breakfast one morning after a sleep-over at her wonderful home with my friend Anna. Thank-you Mrs. Hofmann for the warm memories I will cherish for a lifetime. My sincere condolences to Anna and her family.
I am so blessed to have known her. And her wonderful family...Margret has a very special place in my heart. She was an amazing lady! I enjoyed being her nurse and friend. Thinking of you all during this difficult time.

Mrs. Hofmann was an amazing lady. My prayers and thoughts are with the Hofmann family.
Margaret Hofmann was a prime example of how this country is so enriched by immigrants who bring a different perspective from their country of origin, contribute so much and make us better people.
I remember knowing Margret back in the 1960's when I attended the Quaker church in Austin. She was a champion for peace and for the enviroment. May you rest in peace. Thank you for saving the trees!
I will remember you as a Voice for the people that needed protection anywhere in the world as we worked together in the local resettlement office twenty years ago. I will remember your gentile persona filled with enormous energy in giving back to our community. Thank you for all you did for the betterment of this world!
Sincerely, Aferdita Dauti-Heilman
Margaret was a voice for those without a voice. The trees will shed tears over this loss of a champion. May peace always be with her, for peace was always with her.
Liebe Margret, wir danken Dir von ganzem Herzen, dass Du uns mit Deinem Leben so viel geschenkt hast.
Our sincere condolences to Margret's family. We spent so many hours with Margret discussing life, the world as it is and as it should be according to her idealistic views. We also talked a lot about childhood memories and influences from her early years in Germany many of which we shared.
Wir werden Dich nie vergessen, Margret and we'll bake a Pflaumentorte according to your recipe.

Margret had such a vital life force, I couldn't imagine her dying. Even during illness, her brilliant mind was active, figuring out things she could still do. Her strong, compassionate and wise spirit lives on.
Some of us take more seriously the spiritual command to make the world better by doing unto others (including our fellow earth passengers, the environment) the way we'd have them to do unto us. Thank God for Margaret Hofmann.
Thank you Margret for a wonderful life!
RIP Margaret. The world is a better place because you were in it. Thank you for your service to Austin and its urban forest. God bless you and your family.
I will miss my grandmother very much. She was a blessing to everyone she came in contact with and was always someone I listened to and respected.
We will love and miss you...
Thanks lady. I never knew about you till now, but you seem to have been a real doer of good works. Thanks.
It was a great experience to work with Margret and Otto as a young person learning grassroots methods of reaching people and hearing their needs. I have many good memories of them and can only imagine their chldren's memories. My sincerest condolences to the family. Rest in peace, Margret.
SHE WILL ALWAYS BE KNOWN AS THE "TREE LADY" AND AS ONE LOOKS AT ALL THE MAJESTIC TREES WITH WHICH AUSTIN IS BLESSED WE NEED TO REMEMBER MARGARET HOFFMAN WHO STOOD UP FOR THEIR PROTECTION WHEN MOST WERE TOO BUSY GOING ABOUT THEIR OWN BUSINESS. THANK GOODNESS AUSTIN KEEPS PRODUCING THOSE LIKE HER AND EMMA LONG WHO CAME FROM THE SAME BRANCH.
Margret and her husband Otto Hofmann were city of Austin treasures. She will be missed, as is Otto.
Rest in peace, Margret. We will all miss you.
I fondly remember Mrs. Hofmann from visits to the Hofmann home . Her eldest son Franz and I attended school together from Dawson Elementry to our graduation from Travis High School in 1969. I stand in awe today of this strong courageous lady after reading about her life from pre World War 2 Germany to her countless contributions that shaped the Austin we know today. My deepest condolences to Franz and the Hofmann family . May you find comfort with God and be eternally blessed with the memory of your mother.
Margret was a mentor to me in the ways of true public service. It was an honor to have worked for her.
