Donald Anthony Griesenauer
December 18, 1932 - February 3, 2013
SALEM - Donald Anthony Griesenauer, a life time resident of the Brooks and surrounding areas, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2013 after a battle with cancer. He spent his final days at home with Shirley Huntley surrounded by beloved family and friends.
Don was born on December 18th, 1932 to John and Emma (Zurlinden) Griesenauer of Mt Angel, Oregon. He attended the Mt Angel schools where he graduated. At age 17 he joined the United States Air Force as an airplane mechanic. He married his wife of 41 years, Lucille Marie Schindler on September 18th, 1954 at Sacred Heart church in Gervais. Don was preceded in death in 1995 by his wife Lucille and later brother James. He is survived by his sister Betty Crossland of Turner and brother Robert of Brooks, his son Wayne of Canby, John of Stayton and Joseph of Brooks. Daughters, Susan Iverson of Ridgefield, Wa., Sharon May of Woodburn and companion of 11 years Shirley Huntley of Salem. Don has 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Don was a long time member of Sacred Heart Parrish in Gervais where he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He retired from Boise Cascade Paper Mill after 33 years and continued as a berry farmer with his wife Lucille. In his golden years he enjoyed snow birding and traveling with his sweetheart Shirley. Don especially loved spending time with family and friends who he loved with all his heart. He enjoyed family camping trips, boating, salmon fishing and attending his grandchildren's events. He also really enjoyed real estate investment fixer uppers. He had fun playing cards and surfing Craig's list.
A viewing will be from 1-5PM followed by a rosary service at 7PM; Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Cornwell Colonial Chapel. Funeral Mass will be 11AM; Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gervais. Interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

We recently got to make Don's aquaintance this past year through his friend Shirley. What a gracious, kind person Don was. We will miss having Sunday breakfasts and hamburger night at the Elk's with him. He was a true gentleman.
