Doris LaRue Barnwell passed away Friday, April 10, 2015. Doris was born October 17, 1929 to Lowell and Dorothy Sloan in Hayes Center, Nebraska.
Doris married Howard Raymond Barnwell on October 17, 1947 in Salem, Oregon. Doris attended Parish and Salem High School, graduating in June, 1947. Doris also attended Phagan's School of Beauty (1962), graduating as a cosmetologist. Doris worked as a beautician, retiring in 1975.
Doris was the love of Howard's life.
Doris is survived by her husband of 67 years; daughter Sheryl Powell (John); four grandchildren, Kevin Powell, Jennifer DeStefano (Robert), Kristiann Powell-Robert (Casey), and Jeffrey Powell; nine great-grandchildren, Donovan Powell, Coleby Darras, Gabriella DeStefano, Olivia DeStefano, Vivienne DeStefano, Morgan Destefano, Sheyanne Loose, Kaidan Loose, Ethan Powell-Robert. Doris is also survived by sister Marilyn Jones (Flloyd), nephew Brant Jones, niece Denise Withers (Frank), and sister-in-law Lola Christofferson.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 18 at Barrick Funeral Home at 2pm. Interment will follow at Belcrest Memorial Park in Salem, OR.

Sheryl and Howard, we are sorry to hear of Doris's passing. As a first cousin of Doris I have some memory of her as we got to about 5 or 6 and then she and her family moved to Oregon in the mid 1930's. I saw her several times as we were growing up and maybe 4 times in later years. The Rathbun and Sloan families did well in Oregon. Take Care, Leroy Large family

Barney & family, I'm so sorry to hear of Doris's passing. She was a very special person that Lynne & I loved. My thoughts are with you and very sorry I can't attend the services as I am out of the country.

Doris was such a lovely woman. I remember jigsaw puzzles, staying at the coast with Howard and Doris, and many cups of tea with Doris and Dorothy - forever. . . Love, Ginger
