Robert "Bob" Joseph Diehl December 17, 1922 - November 26, 2008 MT. ANGEL - Bob Diehl was born December 17, 1922 in Salem, Oregon and moved to Mt. Angel in 1927. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific during WWII and in the occupation of Japan. He worked in sales in San Francisco where he married Sally Spencer who died in 1965. Later he worked for Dalmo Victor in Belmont, Calif. and helped build one of the antennas for the moon landers of the Apollo Program. He married Dorothy Baumgartner in 1969 in Belmont, Calif. After returning to Oregon in 1971, he worked for the Mt. Angel School District, Farmers Oil Company and Astro Tire Company in Portland and then as an independent tire salesman until he retired. He enjoyed wood-working projects, gardening and tropical birds. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; and sons, Spencer of Colton, Paul of Elmira, New York, and Bob, Jr. of Wilsonville; daughters, Susan and Stacey of Nehalem; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and a sister, Lois Booth of Portland. He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen. Viewing will be from 12 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 4 at Unger Funeral Chapel in Mt. Angel. A Bible Vigil will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 4 and Mass at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 5 both at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mt. Angel, where he was a member. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Mt. Angel. Contributions to St. Mary's Parish Youth Group. Arrangements by Unger Funeral Chapel.
