Had the honor to spend time with Mr. Perkins while working at Eugene Country Club. Louie would stop by my desk and share tales of his shenanigans while serving our country. My favorite story however was when his eyes would light up and he would recount the story of meeting his wife and the life that they shared. His infectious laugh made his visits a favorite part of my day. Truly sad that such a fine man has left us...
I have so enjoyed meeting with Louis over the years when he came to Colfax. We discussed his desires for the Perkins House. I took longer than Louis wanted on getting the iron fence rebuilt- but we both wanted it done right- and it was. Now it as so much else in Colfax is a continual reminder for the Whitman County Historical Society of generous spirit of Louis Perkins.
I remember Louis Perkins as a compassionate leader. It was an honor to work with him at the Salem JC Penney store. The associates who worked there were a close knit group and Louis helped create that! He let each of us know how valuable we were to the team! Please know that I am keeping his family in my thoughts and prayers.
I was one of Lou's first trainees hired in
July 1960 and we opened East Port Plaza
on September 1960! I always felt that he
was VP of Public Relations for the company as he knew every body in J.C.
Penney and many articles that he saved
about people in the company.
Cindy, I knew you as a little girl in Portland!
I had the opportunity to go to Marlys
celebration of life in 2006! Your Mother
was a great lady!
Jerry Bowden would have been there but
he is in Puerto Viarrta and will not be
back to Eugene for 2 more weeks!
Sorry for your loss Cindy!
As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.
So deeply sorry for your loss. What a wonderful life Lou had. How blessed you all have been to be his family.
All our love, John, Mary, Paul and Laura
Louis Perkins was a kind and considerate Ala Moana store manager. He took bus load of JCP associates to the Pro Bowl for years, even after leaving Hawaii. He was part of our ohana (family). May the Spirit of Aloha be with him and Marlys.
