Mr. Roth will be greatly missed! He taught me and many of my fellow classmates toe love of folk music at Stayton Middle School. It broke my heart when I heard he passed away!

It was a wonderful celebration of Pete's life and spirit last Saturday--an amazing gathering of people with whom Pete shared his life and his gift of music.

I will always remember first meeting him at the Haystack Songwriting Workshop at Cannon Beach in 1979. That meeting led us to an incredible musical collaboration partnership. We co-authored a boxcar full of music and lyrics for individual songs, for the musical "Halfway Home," and for Pete's Christmas musical adpatation of "The Gift of the Magi."

I have so many wonderful memories of Pete. Our Friday night video game marathons; countless Pietro's "Bartender's Special" pizzas (absolutely NO mushrooms!); Ripoff the cat; rehearsals of our musical "Halfway Home" in his apartment in Salem; introducing him to the music of Bill Staines; going to the Barbershop Singing Competition at Willamette University; meeting his future bride, Elaine, for the first time at dinner at Jake's in Portland; and always trying out a new song or a lyric on him--his opinion was invaluable.

Finally, I must include one of Pete's humorous poems here. It's one that I first heard at the Haystack Workshop and have never forgotten:

"It goes without thinkin'
That bars are for drinkin'
And yet, somehow, that's absurd.
They're also for givin'
Musicians a livin'
But in bars, it's sure hard to be heard."

Well, I heard you Pete, and I'm so thankful I did. You were fine musician and my steadfast friend.

Thanks so much for everything buddy.

Pete and I were at Willamette together. I rember fondly the serenades when the Kappa Sigs came. They were always
Good. After graduation I stayed in Salem and Pete and I maintained a friendship that was just that.

He would sometimes call just to talk about world affairs. I remember when he worked at the pizza parlor so he could play the piano after hours.

Sometimes we went fishing up the canyon. Pete also drove me out to the farm house area of Marion county for Stan B's campaign. He didn't want to talk to voters but he knew I didn't have a car.

He had a little bit of competition in him. I had caught a 13 inch cut throat trout on a trip to Idaho with a guy I was dating and his family. Pete wouldn't take me fishing again until he caught a bigger fish.

We both got busy with careers and life. The last time I saw him was the big do in Turner near his retirement. You could tell that he was a much loved teacher that night. Reading the other comments has only cemented in my mind his calling as a teacher.

Who could forget El Don Gato or Big Blue... You saved me from boredom and encouraged me to express my creativity. You taught us all how to take learning and growing seriously but not to take ourselves too seriously. You taught us to appreciate and respect each other's individuality - as well as to love music! I have taught many of those fun and silly songs to my son and I am sure he will share them with his children someday. The Nash girls will ALL ALWAYS remember you fondly and your legacy will live on through all of us. I know You will be missed for now but I am certain that I will see you again someday, Sir. Thank you!

Thank you so much for leaving messages on the guest book. You were all very important to him and you would be surprised at the little mementos he kept to remind him of you.

Mr Roth was a wonderful teacher. After 30 years there are so many songs learned in his class that are still in my memories. Thank you to the man who made music fun and kept my mind opened to many genres of music, not just mainstream. I truely wished my own children could have had the experience of Mr Roth playing the guitar or piano whole heartily to whatever song was being shared that day. My personal favorites were Senor Don Gato and Muleskinner.

Pete entertained my family after our wedding with his music. His original version of how St. Pat drove the snakes from Ireland was one of the siblings still talk about it. Pete, we will miss your gift of music and humor.

It wasn't until I looked back as an adult that I realized just how cool Mr. Roth was. I mean, he had us singing the Beach Boys, the Beatles (and more!) in our school programs. His music classes were never boring and I can still remember some of them like it was yesterday.

Thank you, Mr. Roth, for fostering a love of and appreciation for music in me. Thank you for everything you taught me and so many others. You made such a difference in so many lives and you will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family.

Mr. Roth you made such an amazing difference in not only my kids lives but so many peoples lives. It's not often that a teacher can bring out such determination and happiness in a child. I saw this in all three of mine through what you taught them.

You will be sadly missed by so many, your purpose in this temporary world is known by all and I would say accomplished wonderfully.

Prayers to your wife and son during this difficult time.

I remember Pete as lisas wonderful brother in my childhood. In later years he and his wife graciously hosted a gathering of Lisas friends when she returned to the portland area. My heart and prayers go out to his family. I pray for Gods peace for u all. It is so hard, but a day at a time.
