I taught with Mr. Calabrese my first years of teaching at East Iredell Middle School.I was most impressed by his love of music and how he inspired the students he taught. Also being a young teacher he always took time to talk and mentor me as I grew and formed my teaching and life philosphies. He impacted so many and was loved and respected by all.Educators like him are and will be missed.

Jim Calabrese was a great teacher and friend. He taught my son music at WIH and later presented him with a music scholarship to college. We have great respect for Mr Calabrese and know that he will be greatly by his family and friends. May God give the family comfort and peace only as He can.....

I will always remember Jim, he was a good friend. We had many conversations, about music, and life in general. RIP Jim!

I'm so sad to hear of the passing of Mr. Calabrese. I was fortunate enough to have attended Statesville Senior High School while he was directing the Greyhound Grenadier Band. Boy, he made that band sound great. How proud we were of them and him. What a marvelous fellow he was and was loved by all the students. When I think of Mr. Calabrese, it brings only good memories, happy times and a smile to my face.
I would like to send my prayers and condolences to his family at this difficult time.

Mr. Calabrese, you were a wonderful band teacher and we'll never forget you! I still have my alto saxophone that you taught me how to play in 1988. Thank you for your tireless service for all those years.

Mr Calabrese was a huge inspiration to tens of thousands of students and he touched and will be able to continue to touch lives through music. He will truly live on even though he may be resting peacefully...the heavenly band just obtained a truly wonderful man...he will be missed by many.

Mavis, Dan, Susan and all Jim's family, Jim Calabrese was a positive life changer to Carroll Co.VA young people when he came to Hillsville VA around 1956. Mr. Calabrese saw our strengths and expected our best effort and we learned to play the notes and march with precision with the 120+ Hillsville High School Band before he moved to Statesville. We were honored to perform in Winston-Salem, Washington, DC and Chicago,IL. As my letter to the Carroll News stated in April 2004, Thank you Jim Calabrese for helping us respect the authority of God, parents, and yourself and believe we could go places and do things with our individual talents. Your work was not in vain.

As some of us had contact with Jim over the last several years, he continued to be an encouragement to us and so loved you his family. Praying for strength and comfort for all of you
as you press on to the goal in Christ Jesus. A song of comfort is Because He Lives (I can face tomorrow) In Him, Ann Lyons Sellers
