Dear Stefan Smith,
I know you will never read this. I know your family may never read this. I did not have the honor of ever knowing you or your beautiful family. I don't know where you came from what kind of man you where or who you would have been if this war hadn't taken you away from those that love you most. However I do know that your life has had more of an effect on people than I have seen in a long time. I was humbled to see the thousands of people that showed up outside that church to welcome you home. Your sacrifice brought a community together in support of your family, your brothers in arms, and your country in a way I have never seen. I promise you that your community is doing everything they can to reach out to your wife and children. They will never want for anything ever again. At least that is my hope and my prayer that this community never forgets and never stops appreciating your sacrifice. As an army wife I am numb to the high stakes of your careers, of the sacrifice of the family, and of the hard life we live. We become so accustomed to everything I think we have forgotten just how special you all truly are. How blessed we are as a society to have people like you willing to stand up and give their lives for what is right. You made me appreciate my fathers service and my husabnds service as well as the service of men and women all over this country in a way I never truly have. So all though I never knew you, I want you and your family to know you changed my life forever. I am so thankful that your family gave me and countless others the honor of standing outside that church to welcome you home. Thank you for everything.
