Duty, decency, reliability, honour, dignity, respect: these are all qualities that dad not only held in high esteem, but practiced every day during his time on earth. He was a serious and loving man, but he could not resist the opportunity to have a laugh with friends and loved ones, if given the chance.
He served in the USMC for about 7 ½ years. While in the marines, he served in Japan, the Palau Islands, the Philippine Islands, the Mediterranean, the Korean War, Seoul and was one of the “Chosin Few”. Dad's portrait is on the Korean Memorial Wall. He earned many medals for his service to our country and 2 purple hearts.
Dad was married to a wonderful, loving wife of 52 years. He was a proud and loving father of 5 sons and 2 daughters. Dad was also a Grandfather of 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Also, he was 1 of 9 brothers and sisters.
When dad could not remember the word for something, he would call it a “whatchamacallit”. Also, we could remember when he wanted to say the number three, it would come out as “tree”. Dad loved fishing, gardening, hunting, and mushroom and berry picking.
One could say that dad was the richest man in the world with all the love he received and gave from family and friends. We will love and miss you dad.
