Bud was a driving force to many at Bailey and made us reach goals others thought were impossible but really just another challenge.

He wasn't only a giant in stature. My deepest condolences to the Keyes family.

I first met Bud in 1977 at an ISA show in Houston. He was VP Engineering at Bailey. We (Bailey) showed a shared display unit cobbled together with B-7000 parts and a mini computer in response to Honeywell TDC. Bud masterminded it, and most of us Bailey mortals had no idea what it was. Later, the N90 system evolved with Bud at the wheel, and the peddle to the floor. This system developed under his stewardship became the largest installed base in the world. He also wrote a book on Offshore Drilling, and the credibility of this book was instrumental in us winning the contract for the control system for the largest GBS Platform ever built in North America. (Hibernia, now producing thousands of barrels a day off the east coast of Canada), thanks Bud.
I also remember one evening in Houston at an ISA show after Bud had won the Donald P. Eckman award. He found the time to have a fireside chat along with a few beers with some young engineers and technicians from Canada. They couldn't believe that a president could know so much technology! They went home so fired up....!

Bud was always there for us, and at times, moved mountains for us to get a proposal together.

Sadly, Bailey Canada is gone, and now Bud. It is truly the end of an era.

My sympathy to Pat and family, it is so sad to see the "big" guy go so soon.
I always thought there could be one more heated discussion about where controls were going.....

Bud, wherever you are, I know you'll be in the front row challenging the status quo, because that's the kind of guy you are.

It is an extremely rare and very fortunate thing to have known such a truly great man.

Over a period of three decades, I came to see Bud as a "complete" man. And, by that, I mean he had total and unquestioning love for his family, was profoundly loyal to his friends, colleagues, and employees. He was happy to help anyone, and his faith in the Lord was unwavering. As we all know, Bud was brilliant, with a profound understanding of history, global business, the sciences, as well as the arts. There can be no question that he was a very strong person in every sense, and when required was an able competitor, yet at the same time Bud was a gentle, caring, and loving man. In my book, that's pretty darn "complete".

Carol and I consider ourselves blessed to have come to count Bud and Pat as among our closest friends.

Very, very well done my friend. You will be greatly missed and long remembered.

It was a privilege to have worked with Bud during his years at Bailey. He was a true visionary and leader. I'm not sure Bailey would have remained competitive without him.

Bud was running Bailey when I joined as a field engineer, and he remained influential over my many years there, as well as Emerson when I later joined PWS. His son MAK V and I became friends when we lived in China, and I have nothing but good associations and memories with the Keyes. The modern DCS industry stands on the shoulders of this giant. Condolences to his family.

I was privileged to sit in one of Bud's marketing classes at Baldwin Wallace College in the eighties. He and I devised the distributor concept with airport stock when he was with Bailey Controls. North coast Instruments in Cleveland was the first distributor in this type of business. Bus's courage to step out of the box made him someone to respect. He was also a good Christian man who I came to call my friend. God Bless Bud. We will meet again.

Bud was one of the first people I met in the automation business. He took the time to talk to me when I was just a kid at my first ISA show. Then I had the privilege of doing some projects for him as a research analyst. I learned a lot from him and he will be missed.

Bud was one of the first inductees into the Process Automation Hall of Fame, an honor he richly deserved. The industry has had few people that influenced its direction more than Bud, and at the same time remaining a fine person and a committed mentor.
