Glasshagel, Harriet M. Age 98, of Wheaton, former long time resident of West Chicago, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2012 at Wynscape Nursing Center in Wheaton. She was born on June 18, 1913 in West Chicago to Dominick and Emma Reuter. Harriet graduated from West Chicago High School. She worked for many years as the executive secretary for George J. Ball of George J. Ball Seed Company of West Chicago. Harriet was united in marriage to George Glasshagel on September 4, 1936. She served many years as a member of the DuPage County Farm Bureau, DuPage Extension Service, DuPage County Queen Committee, DuPage Fair Board, where the home economics building is dedicated to her. Harriet is a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in West Chicago and present member of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Winfield. Harriet is survived one daughter, Sandra (Chuck) Brown of Geneva; two grandchildren, Lisa Swanson and Craig (Lynne) Brown; four great-grandchildren, Michael and Anna Swanson and Ryan and Andrew Brown; sister-in-law Dorothy Rakow; and relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband George; two sisters, Margaret and Lillian and one infant brother. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 from 4 to 8 pm at Norris-Walen-Segert Funeral Home, 132 Fremont St., West Chicago. She will lie in state on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 from 9:30 AM until time of service at 10:00 AM at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, 0S501 Summit, Winfield, IL. Reverend Dr. Dennis Aubey officiating. Interment St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Aurora.
