Bohm, Merilyn Frances (McKinney) May 13, 1939 - October 28, 2012. Our beloved wife and mother passed away on October 28, 2012 after struggling with health difficulties for the past several years. Merilyn was born in Carlsbad, New Mexico, the daughter of the late Dan and Vesta McKinney of Tucumcari, New Mexico. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Northern Illinois University and completed her teaching certificate. Always taking courses or looking for experiences to share with her children. She loved to learn and earned her Master's degree plus 100 hours. She was a teacher within the Oswego School District from 1974 until her retirement in 1994. Teaching was her passion. While working for Carolina Biological, she continued sharing her educational talents. She conducted instructional seminars for teachers to assist them in developing techniques for teaching hands-on-science to their students. Her passion for learning never ceased. She also loved the outdoors and wild life. She spent 20 years as Steward for Nelson Lake Marsh Nature Preserve. Countless hours were spent at the marsh attempting to eliminate invasive plant species to allow the native Illinois prairie plants to flourish. She trekked many miles with family and friends in the Rocky Mountains and 150 miles along the Appalachian Trail. Her love for nature extended beyond our shores. She truly enjoyed her African safari. Other accomplishments include earning her private pilot's license and being the first women's editor for the Enterprise-Roman in Belleville, MI. Merilyn was a long time member of First Baptist Church in Aurora. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Marvin L. Bohm; her daughter Danette (Ron) Young; her son Dr. Martin S. Bohm (Dr. Karla Loken); four grandsons, Nicholas, Jackson, Benjamin and Payton; two brothers, Dan R. (Jo) McKinney and William McKinney along with many loved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers and in honor of her memory, bless a child by teaching them something new, help someone learn to read, or volunteer to plant native flowers and trees to brighten the area for years to come. A memorial gathering is being planned for the spring. Arrangements were handled by Healy Chapel, Aurora. For information 630-897-9291 or http://www.healychapel.com/ to sign the online guestbook.

I visit Nelson lake from time to time to take a hike to Merilyns bench. As I reflect on the positive influence she had in my life, she was my mentor and friend. She encouraged me to excel and in science and outdoor education. Although I miss her still, I know she is thriving with Jesus.

I only knew Merilyn for a few months, but I saw her smile and say a few words quietly to me. Everyone loved her and I am blessed to be able to help in her care for a little while.

I am so sorry for your loss. I still have the Santa Face Cookie platter she made for my mom over 40 years ago, my mother gave it to me, she knew how much I loved it. I use it every year for my Christmas Cookies, have cherished it always. My condolences to the entire family.

I am sorry for Mrs. Bohm's passing. I never had her as a 6th grade teacher at Thompson, but I remember her well. She was a stern but teriffic teacher.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Merilyn would speak proudly of her family often. I taught with her for many years at Thompson in Oswego. She was a caring and dedicated teacher. She was the inspiration for the Thompson Woodlands Classroom. I would like to dedicate that spot to her memory.

Our Deepest Sympathy to your family
My family Thomas')used to live on Heather Drive in the 70's - just down the street from you and later in life my husband worked with Marty at Fox Valley before he went off to college.
The last time I had seen Mr & Mrs Bohm was at Arby's about a year ago - I went and spoke with her and she was telling me where Danette had moved and settled down, it had been MANY years since we had seen each other but I often thought it was interesting how our paths would cross every so often. What a pleasant, kind person she ALWAYS was.
Like a bird singing in the rain, let fond memories lift you during this time of sorrow.
