The world is better because of Dr. C. Everett Koop. As a republican, he had the courage to address unpopular and controversial social issues on a timely and effective manner. Little known, is what he also did to advance initiatives funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to prevent the use of spit tobacco. Thank you.

To my role model -- your spirit will always be remembered, and now, sorely missed. My sympathy to your family for their loss.

I treasure having talked one-on-one with my Surgeon General, Dr. C. Everett Koop. There has been no one who could equal or replace you in this governmental position. Thank you, sir.
