A good childhood memory for me was watching Friday Night Fights on our B/W TV with my father and grandfather in the 1950's. Whenever Mr. Basilio fought, there was extra excitement for the event in my house. To me, at age 8, 9 or 10, he was bigger than life. I wish I had told him "thank you" for competing with all he had and for the pleasure it brought me to watch him compete. As I reflect now on those Friday Nights, I believe he was one of my first teachers about courage, toughness and commitment. May he rest in peace and may his family be comforted in their loss.

He was a champion in boxings golden days when there was great honor in it.Sad we do not see that today. He and Marciano and the like were real class acts.Would be nice if it could be brought back to that great glory day time again.I boxed Golden Gloves and I loved guys like Carmen.
