Hey Roger,

Well Devil Dog it has been a while since I have written but there isn't a moment go by I don't think of you and the craziness you brought into my life. From your advantage point you are seeing your children are growing and seem to be doing well. Sarah Beth is doing so well with them and you would be so proud of her wrangling them from sun up to sundown. Time for me to close or I will end up writing a book.

Love you so much Devil Dog, your Old Man

Roger,

You will always be remembered. The world lost you too soon, but I know you are still watching over us. To the machinegunners of Fox Company 2/1 there is a special place in our hearts that your can-do mentality and positive attitude will always hold. It seems like just yesterday we were in Fallujah and I know your in a better place.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Deeds Family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Roger W. Deeds US Marine Lance Corporal. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

My heart is heavy on this day, the seventh anniversary of Roger's ultimate sacrifice. Not a day has gone by without his name crossing my lips as I look at the memorial of him and four others that lost their lives that morning. My son survived that day. I don't take it for granted that I can see him daily. Roger will not be forgotten, nor his family.

We felt you right there along with us. I remember the day you ran on the treadmill next to me at Holloman! You are a wonderful young man, Son, Father, Brother, Marine. Dear Scott, I had goosebumps watching you on the national news tonight, taking your son's flag before any of your other possesions when you were ordered to evacuate. The name Deeds raised a flag with me, as I am quite sure our sons served together in Fallujah. My son was out and in college the next year and almost re-enlisted as several brothers were lost close together. He was deeply affected and mentioned your son with the others. This memorial day I worked on a list of 2/1 names who were lost during or after the Fallujah deployment. My son was in H&S company in S-2, but he knew your son. I am praying your home is safe and will be touching base with other former 2/1 moms who will also send their heartfelt best. We have our own wildfire very near Billings tonight, but nothing like the magnitude Colorado has been going through. May God bring you and yours safely through this ordeal.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Roger, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

To the family of Roger: My son was with Roger that terrible day. I want you to know that Roger is honored and remembered in our hearts and will be forever. Jack pays special tribute of his own every November 16. I so remember that day also as I heard of the loss of our fine young men that day and the fear and sadness I had. I cry still as I remember our fallen. Roger is remembered with great honor in our family. He is one of America's true American Heroes. Know that he was with brothers that day and not alone, and that he lives on in remembrance of those brother Marines. Jack spoke of Roger when he came home on postdeployment leave and cried for him.. A few days later I asked how he was doing and he said fine. Then he told me Roger would have wanted to be honored not cried for forever, so he remembers always and pays his own quiet tribute every November 16th. When the cross of the fallen was burned in the fires at Camp Pendleton Jack helped take the new cross up the hill and a lot of it was for Roger and to ensure that his name was there for all future Marines to pay tribute to. He will always be America's Hero in our hearts. I hope God has given you a peace in your lives and your paths has been as easy as can be in this situation. Freedom is not free and only those who serve and their families know that true cost. Jack just became reserve and my son-in-law has one more active year after serving 2 tours in Iraq. I guess Brett's return and Jack's reserve status made me look for Roger's guest book. I pray for you and yours always and remember Roger always.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

"We feel we only knew him for what seemed to be a short time. A good young man, full of life, family friend, brother in Christ. A good friend to our son, Dustin - football and motorcycles - he was the one that led our son to Christ. He was there when he was baptized. We never forgot him. How awesome is it for one teenager to bring another to Christ. It would be easy to say he was one of his best friends in High School. It was hard to watch him and his family move away. We shared the news of his passing with Dustin previously - he was shocked and cried for the loss of a friend that time had caused him to lose touch with.

We are comforted to know he is in heaven with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We are very proud of the young man he became - We were so blessed to know him and his family. Be proud of your son, brother, husband and father. He was always one that gave of himself for others. Roger will forever be in our hearts and you, his family in our prayers."

4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!

My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!

To Roger's family and friends-

My family and I are praying for you and your family during this difficult time. We send our deepest empathy as we lost our Marine on 11/30/05 in Fallujah. We are comforted to know that our Marines are serving their country with such honor and bravery. We are so proud of our Marines and all of our other service men and women for all that they have done and continue to do to keep us safe and to give us the freedom we have that so many take for granted.

They are true Heroes and need to always be remembered for their selflessness and sacrifice to better our world. We will forever be united in the loss of our heros. We are so sorry for your loss and hope our words will ease some of the pain, and maybe fill some of your emptiness.

Yesterday, Today, Forever – Semper Fi - Marines!

Our sincerest gratitude for their bravery-

Sarah, I want to extend to you my heartfelt sympathy on the passing of your husband. My name is Gunnery Sergeant Michael Fay. I'm a combat artist for the Marines, and as such was attached to your husband's 2nd platoon for much of the fighting in Ubaydi. I want you to know that I took a digital photo of him on the 13th of November. How can I get this to you? I can send it to you and your family as a email attachment...please provide an address for me. Mine, along with the prayers of many Marines go out to you and your children, and to Deeds' parents.
