I was saddened to hear about the passing of Mayor/B. Gen. Ken Combs. I vividly remember meeting him the first time in 1964 at the age of 8 while playing at the house that he bought in Bayou View. I valued his long friendship of over 42 yrs. and credit his influence on my life as a scout leader (I became an Eagle Scout along with his son, Bob); as a great Daily Herald customer (I delivered his paper for 8 yrs.); and as a military leader (I recently retired in the Air Force after a 27 yr. flying career as a F-4 combat fighter pilot and Air National Guard B-1 bomber pilot). My older brother, Kenneth, was also positively influenced by Gen. Combs while serving under his command and recently retired from the military as an officer. His greatness can be measured by the positive influence he had on those he knew and served. He epitomizes duty, honor, and country. My prayers are for his family who bear his passing. We are all honored by his life and the citizens of Gulfport who were blessed to know him will miss him.
