Lt Stern was my Platoon Commander in Fallujah. I still think of that day often. Andy was a great guy, an outstanding Marine, and an inspiring leader.

Andrew, I did not know you personally, but do know you through your mother. I know how proud you are of her. I teach with your mother and not only is she one of the best high school Spanish Teachers in the U.S., but she is a wonderful example to our students of what a wife, mother and teacher truly means. I thank her for being your mom and thank you for giving the U.S. the ultimate gift. May your and your mother's example of what life should and can be continue to shine bright.

To the family of 1Lt. Stern,
I did not know 1Lt. Stern personally, but I was with him the day he passed. His tank patrol was pulling security for us while we were building a bypass road for Fallujah. I sustained injuries in the same blast that took his life. I believe that his actions helped to save my life and the lives of many others that were present that day. My condolences to the family and friends of 1Lt. Stern's.

It's been over 5 years now and we will never forget the sacrifice that Andy made for our nation. He was an inspiration to us all and I think about the lessons he taught us often. He was a true hero in every sense of the word and we miss him.

The other day I happened by Andrew Karl Stern's gravesite at Arlington National Cemetery and saw the display created for the 5th anniversary of his death. I want to share it. I'm not sure how it will look. Contact me if you want a copy.
