Dr. Linda SmithDr. Linda W. Smith, NRB's Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer, has been called to serve as the President of the D. James Kennedy Leadership Institute, and will take up her new position at the conclusion of this month.

After serving on the staff of NRB since 2008, Smith will work to establish the D. James Kennedy Leadership Institute, which is dedicated to equipping leaders in the Biblical cause of cultural reformation.

A new project of D. James Kennedy Ministries, the D. James Kennedy Leadership Institute will serve leaders and future leaders pursuing a holy ambition of seeking to attain their highest level of influence and authority in the sphere of government and public policy. The institute will be based in Washington, D.C.

"When she joined the NRB staff team, Dr. Linda Smith made an immediate and positive impact, which continued throughout her nine years of service to the association, said Dr. Frank Wright, President & CEO of D. James Kennedy Ministries and former President & CEO of NRB. In accepting the position of President of the D. James Kennedy Leadership Institute, Linda will be bringing her considerable talents and energies to bear on a work that will ultimately benefit the entire NRB.

In announcing Smith's new role, NRB President & CEO Dr. Jerry A. Johnson said, I congratulate Dr. Frank Wright and the D. James Kennedy Leadership Institute on the selection of Dr. Linda Smith to lead this strategic, new organization. Linda has been an invaluable member of the NRB staff for nine years. I'm delighted that she is joining Dr. Wright in this new effort, which will be an important partner for NRB's ongoing mission to advance biblical truth, promote media excellence, and defend free speech.

Regarding her transition, Smith said, It has been my great delight and joy to serve the Lord through NRB the past nine years. I am thankful to Dr. Wright for this wonderful opportunity and blessed to be working with him again. The D. James Kennedy Leadership Institute will provide a one-of-a-kind training for leaders and future leaders in Congress and Executive Branch agencies and for those in business and ministries who will be able to change the political landscape through proper preparation to take these high offices.

Before serving as Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer for NRB, Smith served as Assistant to the President of NRB, Chief of the Office of Public Affairs for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, and Chief of Staff for the U.S. Parole Commission.

As Chief of Public Affairs, Smith oversaw congressional, media, and public relations for the Federal Bureau of Prisons (the largest component in the U.S. Department of Justice). At the U.S. Parole Commission, she served as Chief Analyst for the National Appellate Board, Director of Case Operations, and Director of Case Management and Training before assuming the role as Chief of Staff. As Chief of Staff, she oversaw this multi-mission agency, responsible for the release and re-arrest of Federal offenders.

Smith received her doctorate in Public Administration from the University of Southern California. She holds a master's degree in Public Administration from the same school, a second master's degree in Public Administration, and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from West Virginia University.

The Memory Of The Heart

Thanksgiving will soon be upon us, and it's the perfect time for evaluatinghow often we offer thanks to God. Thanksgiving is the memory of the heart, the way we show God that we know Who takes care of us every day of the year.

How are you doing in the gratitude department? Have you counted yourblessings lately and thanked God for each one?

In Luke 17, we read of ten lepers whom Jesus healed. Despite thistremendous miracle in their lives, only one leper returned to thank Jesus. Thisstory shows how even the most spiritual people often forget to thank God. We cansee from the story that the lepers were praying men. They cried out,Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. They asked the Lord to help them. The tenlepers were also obedient men. When Jesus told them to show themselves tothe priest to prove that they were clean, they didn't say, We can't go.Look at us. We have no fingers or toes. We need to talk about this. Instead, they went immediately. Also they were believing men, otherwise theywouldn't have obeyed Jesus' command. Jesus hadn't healed them yet, butthey believed in Him enough to do whatever He said, knowing He would comethrough for them.

Yet despite their obvious spirituality, only one of them returnedto thank the Lord. Jesus was shocked by their ingratitude. When the one leperthanked Him, He didn't say, It was nothing. Forget it. You don't have tothank me. Instead, He said, Where are the other nine? Were not ten lepers cleansed? The lepers were praying men, obeying men, and believing menbutthey weren't thankful men. Their faith was incomplete because they didn'tpraise God. Jesus healed them, but they didn't receive the full blessing whichthe tenth leper received. After all, Jesus told him, Your faith has made youwhole.

There once was a man who praised God so much that people called himHallelujah Smith. We should all strive to earn that same first name. TheBible says God works all things for our good. Therefore, in every situation, letus give thanks, especially on Thanksgiving.

Today, think of something you haven't thanked God for yet, then lift upa prayer of thanksgiving. And this year, make Thanksgiving a real memory ofthe heart.

Dr. D. James Kennedy Endorsement of GOD'S WORD Translation (GW)

Posted on February 5, 2009 | Leave a comment

Even if the rather prolific output of modern translations, paraphrases, and versions of Scripture should increase, this particular linguistic achievement, GOD'S WORD®, will rank among the top contenders with the Bible-reading public.
