A Quiet Good-Bye

I left for work this morning
You were fast asleep in bed
Yeah you were still dreaming
As a quiet good-bye was said

I got home in the evening
Your mom said you went out
You were with your friends
Just having fun no doubt

Then it was time for sleep
The night had already past
You were out enjoying life
As the day had gone too fast

And now I sit here staring
At your picture on the wall
As I fall asleep in wonder
At the greatness of it all

This morning I left for work
You were no longer there
You'd found the one you love
The one whose life you'd share

I still envision you dreaming
Fast asleep in your little bed
And every morning as I leave
A Silent Good-bye is said

Yes you grew up in an instant
Your childhood past me by
Teenage years went as quickly
And now all I can do is sigh

Now its time for me to sleep
Time for my final good-bye
Sorry we missed each other
Who knew that I would die

Looking back at the morning
It was an angel in the bed
It was I who was dreaming
As a final good-bye was said

Heartfelt sympathy goes out to the McConnell family. I recall meeting Chris years ago when he was friend to a supervisor of mine at Dept of Labor. He came to the office on occasion and was very pleasant and friendly. Saddened to realize this was in fact the person I met once I recognized the name. RIP, Chris.
