Kathy Pellegrino

Kathy was my teacher, my mentor...and as the years went on...my colleague and my close friend. In every role she played in my life, she was an inspiration. We met when I was 15 and started in the High School Correspondents program at the Sun-Sentinel. Later, as a reporter for Reuters, it was my early experience working with Kathy that inspired me to start a training program at Reuters for high school journalism students. Kathy exhibited all the ideals we all strive for as journalists -- objectivity, fairness, tenacity, skepticism, curiosity -- as well as the values we aim to uphold as good people. In the 20 years of our friendship, she believed in me, was supportive of me, and continuously challenged me to be the best reporter, the best writer, the best person I could be. In the end, I hope I was able to be the best friend I could be to her during her illness. Thank you, Kathy...for all the ways you helped shape my career and my life. I will always wish we had more time, and I will always keep you close at heart.

Kathy. You had a tremendous influence on me growing up. Some of happiest times of my life were spent in the summers upstate at Nans when our families were together . I'm so sorry to hear . I know you went straight to heaven. Say hi to Nan, our dads, gramps, aunt Claire and Dee! RIP dear cousin.
