Patrick J. Flavin, 74, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 19, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Eleanor Flavin, his aunt, Mary M. Flavin of Chicago and brother, Michael Dennis Flavin of Salt Lake City, Utah. Pat was born and raised on Chicago's West Side and graduated from Austin High School. He attended Loyola University, worked for IBM then, in the mid 1960's, started an innovative computer software design firm, American Data Centre. Through the years, ADC expanded to include services for cable TV systems, printing and race track ownership. A subsidiary, Horseman's Guarantee Corporation of America, Inc., created the bookkeeping services for the horse racing industry, providing staffing for the track and streamling the distribution of purses to winners. They are still servicing all the racetracks in the Chicago area. In the early 1970's ADC was the first to develop software to handle Off Track Betting operations in New York. In 1979, Pat purchased a significant interest in Chicago's Maywood Park Race Track. For over 15 years he owned and operated Bentbrook Farm, outside of Louisville, Kentucky, raced horses in the U.S., England, Ireland and France and was a regular at the Kentucky Derby. Pat's horse, Doc Ryan, won the Edinburgh Gold Cup in Scotland and for the first time in its 180 year history, the cup resided in the United States. Pat moved to Ft. Lauderdale in 1993 and continued developing iconic businesses including The Village Zoo, RJ's Landing, the Riviera Hotel on A1A and in 2000, Bahia Cabana Beach Resort. Pat lived life to the fullest. Butch McGuire's, a legendary pub in Chicago, closed its doors to the public on a busy Saturday night for Pat's private 50th birthday party. His generosity was boundless and he was often the one behind the quiet philanthropy at Catholic institutions, especially Cardinal Gibbons High School and St. Coleman Catholic Church in Fort Lauderdale, and various organizations in Chicago. Pat believed in giving back but he did so without fanfare. He donated and distributed 2,500 teddy bears to first graders in Fort Lauderdale for Christmas. He established scholarships for children of employees suffering hardships. He was a loyal friend, especially to those in the restaurant business including Legend's Pub, the Ambry Restaurant and Stingers. He was the consummate host gathering his family and friends at the Ambry for an annual Christmas Eve dinner or celebrating Valentine's Day in style with the famous Willie Nelson party at Dr. B's. Pat was a dedicated father and loving husband. He always put family first and his love for his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews was without exception. Pat leaves behind his adored wife of 34 years, Tish; five daughters, Eleanor Flavin, Susan Flavin-Finney (John), Julie (Harry) Crawford, Kris (David) Cauble, Mary Kate (Rich) Pratt; two sons, JJ Flavin and Shamus Flavin and five grandchildren: Tyler and Abby Cauble, Graham Crawford, Olivia and Audrey Pratt; eleven nieces and nephews. His family and friends will always remember Pat for his strength, support, generosity, quick wit, Irish Catholic faith and for his love of family, community, country and the Chicago White Sox. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, September 24th, 11 a.m., in St. Coleman Catholic Church, 1200 S. Federal Highway, Pompano Beach, Fl., 33062. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Pat's memory are suggested to St. Coleman Catholic Church. Arrangements entrusted to Kalis-McIntee Funeral & Cremation Center, 954-566-7621. Pat was a class act, he was a great friend and community leader. I was honored to have him as a friend. He told the best stories and always made me laugh. I often think of him when I hear 311 Amber as this was always his request for the juke box when the gang was together. Bless His Spirit. Sending Love and Blessings to The Family Today and Always ❤❤

In 1973 Pat hired me as his Girl Friday. He and John Guiney had just started HGCA and Pearl Miller, his secretary/bookkeeper was moving to WI. I worked for ADC & HGCA for 5 amazing years before moving to Phoenix. What great memories I have of Pat, Ron, John, Mike, horsemen, mutuel clerks, track employees - my sympathy to the Flavin girls and other family members.

I can not say enough good things about Pat. I worked for him at the Bahia Cabana many years ago. He was always more like family to me than he was a boss. I still think of him as family and I will always be here for any of his actually family. I really am in shock and I don't know what else to say. I just know that my life is better for having known him and I will miss him always.

I have been praying for Tish & the boys along with the rest of Pat's family. He was a friend to all who knew him. I have many fond memories and smile every time I think of him. I feel blessed to have known him & to have called him my friend. I especially remember the time we all had June Goose together at the Ambrey and will always think of him during the boat show. I was always excited to be a part of any of his events and had never had so much fun on the golf course. He was truly a remarkable human being and will be missed by all. Sending my deepest condolences and blessings to all of his family and countless friends. God Bless You All. Sincerely Elena

Tish, my deepest sympathies. Julie, Eleanor, Chris, my thoughts and prayer are with you and your brothers and sisters. I was fortunate enough to get to know Pat during my stint in racing. We shared a love for the West side of Chicago, passion for the White Sox and a pride in our Irish heritage. His joy for living was only matched by his pride in his family. I will cherish all of the memories from Chicago to Fort Lauderdale to Ireland. Truly one of the kindest and most interesting men in the world!

Tish and family,
So sad to hear about Pat's passing....I am grateful to have known Pat for over 30 years. I have fond memories over those years starting from day one. I was organizing a seminar in Chicago with Dublin lawyers and professions showcasing business and real estate opportunities in Ireland. My friend Butch McGuire helped me add names and addresses of people he thought would be interested. Pat and many of his friends were on that list. Soon after I received a phone call from Pat's office with a generous invitation for all of the Irish visitors to come out to Maywood Racetrack for dinner and races....His hospitality was legendary, in many countries! I know he will be dearly missed, but his legacy will live on forever....GINA WILKINSON

Dear Tish, JJ and Shamus: On behalf of the entire Carr family, I want you to know how sorry we are to hear of Pat's passing. You know I would have been there for you and attended his service but we just found out yesterday. He and Mike are probably having a ball right now reminiscing of old family reunions. He will surely be missed. If you ever need someone to talk to, please give me a call. I know how hard this is but all of you will get through it. As someone told me after Mike passed away, always think of the happy times and share laughs and try not to think of any sadness. My kids and I have shared so many funny things about Mike and it makes it so much easier. We love all of you. Judy

Dear Tish,
My sympathy to you and the children. There will only be ONE "FLAVIN" for sure. Too many memories and crzies to mention. I will remember Pat the most for looking me in the eye in the early 70's and saying to me: "john, you can afford it, you will like it, so stay away from it"! He said many of his friends didn't and ruined their lives. I have always been and will be "drug free" !! Pat meant it, and I listened!
I have paid it forward many times !
God Bless,
