I lived in Nelie's house as a tenant in 2006-07. She was like my mother. She always looked after me like a son, she taught me driving and she helped me with lots of things. She was a very positive and energetic person. Even after so many years I still miss her :-(

"I met Nellie as a participant of the Capability Builders Program. What struck me about Nellie was her willingness to do what ever it took to reach her students. She will be most acutely missed by the student who needs their teacher to go that extra distance.
We lost a valuable colleague today." Lisa Claassen (Brisbane, Queensland)

I had the pleasure of meeting Nellie and working with her over several
months this year during a course of seminars we both attended. Nellie always had a smile on her face and a kind greeting for all of the participants. She clearly put a great deal of energy and devotion into her teaching career and in doing so has improved many lives.
We will miss Nellie,

As a particpant of the Capabilities Builders Learning for work program, I had the privilage of working with and getting to know Nellie. I loved Nellie's passion for education and striving to make a difference for the lives of her students. Even if she swam against the tide her focus was always on the students. I remember her telling us of the story where she would actually drive to her students' homes and pick them up to ensure that they actually attended class. I don't know of many teachesr who would have gone to that extend for their students. Not only will she be sadly missed in her community, but in the education community as well. May we meet more Nellies who dare to care!! ....Annette Winch Gold Coast Institute of TAFE

As co-ordinators of the Capability Builders Learning for Work program we had the opportunity to get to know Nellie through her participation in numerous workshops and activities over the past 9 months. She inspired us with her passion for helping young people and her determination to ensure they had the very best possible start in life. Nellie had a great sense of humour, a caring and generous nature and made a significant contribution to the program.

Say not in grief she is no more - but live in thankfulness that she was

Our sincere sympathy to her family at this sad and difficult time
