I have no words to describe how sad I am at John and Mary's passing. When they started to come to All Saints I was able to renew a brief acquaintance that had meant so much to me as a young professor but over the weeks and months I came to appreciate them for the loving people they still were, depite the travails of time. I so looked forward to John's smile when I greeted him each Sunday and I treasured as well getting to know Mary who was clearly a remarkable woman, gentle, loving and so solicitous of your John. Not merely the length of their marriage but the quality of it was the achievement of a lifetime--far outweighing any professional rewards. I envy them both and I'm glad that neither was forced to live long without the other.
