John J. Capenos, 70, of Pennellville, passed away on Saturday at home surrounded by his family. He was born August 19, 1943 in Pittsburgh, PA. John received a BA in Business Management from Youngstown State University and was a brother with Phi Kappa Tau. John was married to the love of his life, Anna, for 39 years.
John worked as a developer until he retired in 1997. He was Scout Master for Troop 750 in Phoenix, NY for many years. John was a Mason, a Shriner and very active in local politics. John loved to fish and hunt, obtaining his U.S. Coast Guard Captains License.
John is survived by his wife, Anna; and seven children, Robert (Teresa), Stephen (Renee), Joel, Adam, Aaron (Michele) and daughters, Ay Jay and Kerry; blessed with 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a brother, Warren; and a sister, Carol Bowman. John lived a full and happy life and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Humane Association of Central New York or the American Heart Association.

When I am in Clay or up near his Lake Ontario residence, I think of the good times spent with John and Mike Hogan. Very pleasant memories. He was a great guy and a good friend. They are probably sharing some great stories and a few laughs. Both are in My prayers.

Anna: My sincerest condolences. It was with a sense of deep melancholy that I heard the news of John's passing. Hardly seems possible; it was just such a short time ago that he and I made those many trips to northern Maine for the Aroostook Centre Project. His beaming smile and booming voice will long be fondly remembered. Thanks for sharing him with us.
