Leonard Greenia Obituary
Leonard G. Greenia, of Kirkville, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2015 after a courageous battle against cancer.
Leonard graduated from North Syracuse High School in 1977. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and received numerous awards for his service. He was employed for 33 years at Schneider Packaging Equipment Co. Inc, the last seven years as Chief Operating Officer. He was a respected leader, an inspiring mentor, and a trusted friend.
Leonard was a devoted family man. He loved spending time cooking with his daughter, Sophia, turning wrenches with his son, Seth, and sharing all the joys of life with his wife, Katherine and their two Jack Russells, Cody and Tootsie. He was also an avid golfer with an endless drive to master the sport.
After Lenny's diagnosis, the term "LENNYSTRONG" became his mantra. The term became synonymous with strength, determination, and courage. We will remain forever LENNYSTRONG.
Predeceasing him are his father, Leonard M. Greenia and his sister, Sharon E. Greenia.
Surviving are his wife since October 11, 1980, the former Katherine A. Nezelek of Binghamton; his children, Seth Greenia of Syracuse and Sophia Greenia of Providence, RI; his mother, Elizabeth Kolodziey Greenia; five sisters, Lynn (Richard) Schneider, Michele Greenia, Laurie (Gary) Meyers, Catherine Greenia and Mary (Guy) Nunnellee; a sister-in-law, Regina Keen; brother-in-law, David Nezelek and many nieces and nephews.
A blessing, eulogy and prayer will follow calling hours on Friday, September 25 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Fergerson Funeral Home, 215 South Main Street, North Syracuse. Burial will be private.
The family would like to recognize all of the wonderful nurses and doctors at Hematology-Oncology Associates of CNY and the 1st and 3rd floor nurses and doctors at St Joseph's Hospital for their compassionate and professional care.
Donations may be made, in lieu of flowers, to Wanderer's Rest Humane Association, 7138 Sutherland Dr., Canastota, NY 13032, or Madison County Food Pantry, 3 East Main St., Morrisville, NY 13408, or to Golisano Children's Hospital, 1 Children's Circle, Syracuse, NY 13210.
