Paul Brown Obituary

Paul L. Brown passed away with his family by his side on December 4th. Born July 5th, 1948 in Jamestown, NY, he was the son of Dockstader Parker and Isabel Ethington Brown. He was predeceased by his wife, Kathryn (Dailey) Brown.
Paul is survived by his son, Matt (Leslye); daughter, Candy Brummer (Jesse); brother, Dan of Ballston Spa, and his loving grandchildren, Kathryn, Andrew, Alex and Chase. He also had several loving nieces and nephews. He was a graduate of Sharon Springs High School and attended Cobleskill College. He moved to Chittenango in 1969. He was a member of many civic organizations and the recipient of the "Greenie" award given for community service. He was a fierce competitor, playing on and coaching a number of sports teams in Chittenango. He worked as a teachers aide at Chittenango High School in the 1980s before taking a job with Mid-State Door and eventually CNY Coach Mobility. Most recently he sold handicap vehicle equipment for AutoCrafting Mobility Solutions, currently known as United Access. He was an avid sports fan, and a season ticket holder for Syracuse Football. He enjoyed following his beloved St. Louis Cardinals with his faithful dog and best friend Louie by his side. Paul had amazing resilience and work ethic, living 42 years in a wheelchair. He was an inspiration to so many, never letting his injury keep him from doing anything. A special 'thank you' to Delores "Joey" Schrieder and his caregivers Rebecca, Jerry and Tina, as well as the many gracious people who helped our dad along the way.
Calling hours will be 4-7 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the G.F. Zimmer Funeral Home, 702 Legion Drive, Chittenango. Burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Chittenango will be at a later date.
Contributions can be made to the Madison County Office of the Aging SNACK program, 138 Dominic Bruno Blvd, Canastota, NY 13032.

Not sure what to say?

It doesn't seem possible that it will be 5 years ago that you left us Paul. I continue to hold on on to the fond and fun memories of you at SSCS, and then later in life getting a chance to visit with you at Chittenango Falls with your dog when I was taking care of my daughter and granddaughters in Cazenovia. You may be gone but you have not been forgotten. SSCS 1967 Classmate Kathy Bautochka Venette

Matt and Candy,
Paul and I grew up together in Sharon Springs and spent a lot of time trying to find something to do in that little town. I could tell you some great stories. We later played sports together in high school. I haven't seen him in a long time but remember him as a great friend who always looked out for you. I'm sorry for your loss.

Matt and family,

I knew and admired your dad for the past 20 years. I first knew him in his CNY Mobility days and was so very happy to see him continue in the field that he loved. He provided mobility to countless individuals and had an empathy that only he could express. I will truly miss him and wish you and your family most heartfelt condolences.

I was so blessed to be a part of Pauls life for the past 4+ years. He was like a big brother to me and I'm lost without him. I would give anything to have him back, but he is at peace and with his wife that he so adored. I gained a family when I met Paul. Candy and Matt....he always told me how proud he was of both of you. He said he couldn't have raised better kids and he loved his grandchildren just as much. Thank you Matthew and Candy for making me feel like a part of your family. Just a few weeks ago I asked him what he wanted for Christmas and he said I want to walk......you're walking now Pauly! I love ❤ you!

Dearest Matt, Candy, and families,
I am heartbroken by the loss of your dad. He was my hero! He was so much more than a neighbor. He was inspirational to me - never giving up, always the life of a party, the voice of wisdom. He left an imprint in my heart and life that will never be forgotten. His smile will always be in my heart. May the memories of good times on Ramsgate Road fill your hearts with a smile to guide you during this difficult time.

Dear Matt, Candy and family, I'm so sorry for the loss of your dad. I worked with him for many years at Mid State Door and enjoyed him so very much. He always had a smile, he was always good natured and was a good friend. He handled his disability with so much endurance with never a "why me" attitude. I kept in touch with him over the years and was able to stop in to see him just a few weeks ago, right after his accident. I will miss him. God Bless you Paul, you are finally out of that wheelchair and no more suffering.

Matt and Candy, with a heavy heart I remember your father from many years ago when your mom and dad were full of joy and fun! It was before the accident so our friendship included many days of laughter and complete dedication to you kids and the happiness that we all shared! Many changes have occurred since those days. I watched your dad go through his struggles with great strength and courage until my life took me away from Chittenango. But I do remember the smiles, the humor, and the love your dad gave to you and your mother. Please keep those memories in your heart always. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Dear Matt and Candy,

Needless to say I was very sad to learn of your fathers passing. I will miss not having him next to me for the SU football games for almost 35 years. He truly loved you both and your children. You were his gifts and he never took you for granted.

Peace and love always,

Dear Candy and Matt,
Your dad and I were best friends from the time we met at a Concert at SUNY Cobleskill when were we're Sophomores in high school. We have kept in touch all these years on and off. He was a great guy with a gentle spirit who loved you both very much. We went to a Syracuse football game 5 years ago and he seemed to know everybody there. He was quite the talker. I enjoyed watching him play soccer and basketball all during high school and he would come to our games in Cobleskill. Luckily his aunt worked at the telephone company so he made sure he was there by 11 so he could hitch a ride home, otherwise he'd have to hitchhike. I have many great memories that I will treasure, I know he is with your mom and his folks and they are joking around. He will probably get some hoops in too. He will be missed. So sorry for your loss. RIP, Paul.
