Van Lee Brooks 78 of Syracuse, New York; was born on, September 4, 1937. He passed away peacefully at Loretto Rest Home on February 7, 2016. Upon retiring from General Electric he worked at the Salvation Army. He was an active member of Alcohol Anonymous with more than 27 years of sobriety.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents the late Van Franklin and Rosie Mae Brooks of West Memphis, Arkansas. Van is survived by two children Kevin Lee Brooks (Antoinette) of Mableton, GA and Vanessa Lee Brooks of Binghamton, NY; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Calling hours will be Friday, February 12, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Garland Bros. Funeral Home, 143 Martin Luther King West, in Syracuse with Funeral Services to follow by 1 p.m.

Rih Van, I didn't know u very well and when I did meet you , you were very sweet and pleasant. I would see you in passing on the west side , outside and I brought nahsjee to see you , you had the biggest smile when u saw him. , I'm really sorry to hear of your passing. I've come to know that God makes no mistakes. So if this is his will , he's a gained a brave angel. ..To the family, may God keep you in comfort during this difficult time.

Van was such a kind person. I have known Van since 1989 and have always thought of him as a a true friend. His smile always warmed my heart. Heaven has a new angel when God took him home. Rest In Peace my friend.

Van was my brother Kevin and sister Vanessa father, but he was also my stepfather as well. I just want to say I'm sorry for the loss of their father. My condolences to you both. Van will be remembered for so many things that he did, said and attribute to are lives. He always had the right thing to say when you needed advice.
