Dear Mrs. Gholson, Laura, and Kemp. We are sorry to hear about Mr. Gholson passing away. He was a very nice person. All of you are in our thoughts and prayers.

I spent a number of days in the field with Angus from 1998-2002, and he always delighted in telling stories. I regret that on the 2 days I was with him in prime Agalinis georgiana "country," that we did not find it. I hear that he did run it down soon after on the very tract of land we searched one scorching hot day in early September 2000, along with Leon Neel & Mark Garland.

He will be missed but his legacy only bolstered by those who knew him and his passion for nature.

I had a number of memorable days in the field with Angus, and his botanical knowledge & story telling was something to behold. I spent quite a few hours in his herbarium annotating specimens he asked me to review - I consider myself fortunate to have known the man.

Another pic of Angus relaxing at Torreya State Park in the late 1970's. Possibly pondering whether we should go to Ora's at Hosford for oysters or Wingates for BBQ?

Angus was a fantastic mentor to me from 1972 through his retirement from the Corps of Engineers in 1983. In a two week period in the spring of 1973 he taught me more botany, ecology, and natural history than I learned in four years of college. On top of the scientific knowledge he passed to me, Angus taught me true southern hospitality by opening his home for many meals and how to respect all creatures great and small, the Lord God made them all.
