Although I knew Ed in High School, it was later when we both were stationed in Hawaii that I got to know him. I was at the Tripler Army Medical Center with him when his first son was born. Over the years we would get together periodically mostly due to our military affiliations. I am deeply saddened to learn of his passing. My deepest sympathy to his family.

I heard of Ed's passing only last week. He was a wonderful man who served his country and community selflessly. I was fortunate to know him and call him friend. Heartfelt condolences to Carl and the remainder of the family.

I was so sorry to hear of Ed's passing. Ed Rude and I were Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity brothers at Davidson College, and he was one of the most memorable (and colorful) characters I have ever met. I appreciate his service to our country and I offer my heartfelt condolences to his family. Rest in peace, Ed, you will be long remembered.

My lasting memory of Col Rude was his visit to Fort Bragg as a dozen members of his command were about to deploy to Desert Storm. The visit was important to us all and helped our moral as we prepared to depart. It was great to work with him later as he helped me with starting our restaurant in Fort Walton Beach and has never sent me a bill. Ed was a class act! 1sgt Tom Rice
