Kathryn Hall Arnold
Kathryn Hall Arnold, 90, passed away on July 24, 2013 in Tallahassee at the Big Bend Hospice House.
Kathryn was born in Norwood, Georgia on March 13, 1923 and she was raised on the farm in Norwood and met her high school sweetheart, Lacy Arnold. Kathryn graduated from the Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, Georgia with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry. Kathryn's mother had convinced her to study science, because the "study of radiation seems to be a very good field to get into". Following graduation, Kathryn and Lacy married in 1943. Although Kathryn was being recruited for the Manhattan Project, she chose to be a high school teacher and start a family.
Kathryn supported Lacy in his Air Force career, moving to various assignments, and managing a home life during his frequent and long tours of duty. Her greatest pride and accomplishment was in raising a family of five children and six grandchildren. Kathryn and Lacy retired to Tallahassee in 1981, where they enjoyed being with family and friends and attending East Hill Baptist Church. One of Kathryn's joys was singing old-time gospels and hymns. She was also an accomplished cook and musician.
Kathryn is preceded in death by her parents, James and Kate Hall, her brothers James and Herman Hall, sister Harriet Hall, and a son Lacy "Buddy" Hyman Arnold, Jr.
Kathryn is survived by her husband Lacy, and her brother and sister in-law Clint and Dee Arnold with whom she felt very close. Kathryn is also survived by her children Ann Marie Bachman, Kay Caster (Mark), Linda Sturm (Claude), and Robert Arnold (Debbie) and her grandchildren Matthew Bachman, Kathryn Bachman, Steven Caster, James Caster, David Arnold, and Radik Arnold.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, August 3, 2013 at East Hill Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to East Hill Baptist Church.
