TWYNAM, Robert Winton
"Bob" 89, of Tampa FL, passed peacefully in his home November 10, 2017. He leaves behind Susan Pandolfi and Shannon Gibbs who he considered to be his daughter and granddaugher; beloved caregivers; many Twynam cousins; and innumerable friends that he encountered over his many years. Bob was born at Tampa General Hospital, December 15, 1927. He was raised in a house located on Harbor View Avenue and resided there most of his life. He was drafted into the U.S. Army at the age of 24 and served from 1952-1953 in Germany during the Korean War. He then spent 28 years working for Tampa Electric. Without any siblings or children, Bob felt a strong attachment to all of his Twynam relations. He would search out distant relatives from Canada to Australia and keep in touch throughout his lifetime. Bob loved to travel and visited many places throughout the world in his younger days. Even in his final years he dreamed of traveling and wished that he was capable but was not physically able to do so. Instead, he would revel in his outings to the dollar store and Walmart, his favorite stores as Bob was always looking for a bargain. Bob was a longtime member of the YMCA and the American Legion, and had strong emotional ties to Florida United Methodist Children's Home, where his mother, Alice Wilson Twynam, worked as a nurse for many years. Bob will be remembered for his great, never failing optimistic outlook on life, his ability to make friendships with everyone, his great sense of humor, and his ever present smile. A private service will be held to lay Bob to rest at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. Should friends desire, memorial donations in Bob's memory may be made to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, 3607 North Armenia, Tampa, FL 33607.

For me and other Australian Twynams it was an honour and a pleasure to know Robert. He located us through his practice of looking up his surname in the phone book in every new city he visited. So far as we have been able to find out, we might well have common ancestors about four centuries ago. Robert was host to my Aunt Phyllis and my nephew Patrick and me in Tampa on a number of occasions, happy to show us his part of the world. On a visit to Australia during the 1990s he went on a walk to Mt Twynam, in the Snowy Mountains, and suffered the nasty fall and injury to his foot that was to cause him such suffering in years to come. We remember his sharp sense of humour, his humility, his decency, and his generosity of spirit.

Winton was always fun-loving and upbeat whenever I saw him or spoke with him. He often spoke fondly about my dad, his first cousin, and him when they were young. He was wonderful to my grandmother, his aunt Edie. She thought the world of him as we all did.
Rest in peace, Winton.

About 30 years ago, Robert telephoned my husband and me searching for "Twynam" relatives. We could never find a familial connection. Never mind, our relationship grew into one of mutual respect and affection with a heavy dose of giggles and laughter. Robert was a very bright light in my life. Paul & I cherish our memories of time spent with Robert.

One of the most interesting periods of my life was when my wife and I lived with Robert for three months in 2002. So many memories and laughs. Farewell old friend.

So many good memories whenever he came up to Virginia where I grew up and I came down to Florida to stay his place and collected his fruits from his trees once a while. He was my favorite second cousin. I truly miss him!
