I don't know Rev. Abe Brown at all nor have I had the pleasure of meeting him. I've only come to know of him by accident, if you will. I work for the Federal Government and I sometimes browse Government websites to see what new laws are being passed or being debated. I noticed that on August 10th, 2012 the President signed into law a bill to have the Hillsboro Tampa Bay Post Office named after this Reverend Abraham Brown. I became curious and wondered what would make someone pass a bill to rename a post office after a person and who is this person and what did they do. So I began to research Rev. Mr. Abe Brown.
God Works In Mysterious Ways . . . what I found brought tears of joy, conviction, and direction to my eyes. You see, I am a born again Christian who has struggled for years trying to determine what God's purpose is for me and how to live in this world full of temptation self-gratification. My doubts have caused me to be carnal in my thoughts and actions and even fail the tests that God put before me. I've been taught to be like and live like Jesus but many times its hard to do and I've asked God several times to show me an example. Today, I've come to know Mr. Abe Brown. One whose “heaven on earth” accomplishments brought tears to my eyes, not because he was a huge nationally known or globally appreciated figure, but because his accomplishments were humble acts of love carried out right in his own community, that touched the lives of many people. He appeared as a normal guy, who didn't live for fame or recognition, but lived like Jesus, for the sole purpose saving the souls and lives of others.
So I was now eager to see what he looked like and began researching pictures of Mr. Brown; and to my surprise, he even looked like me, even though he was nearly 40 years older than me, and I never admit that someone looks like me. I noticed that Mr. Brown also played college football just as I did; and that Michael Vick, one of my favorite athletes, in March of 2011, honored Mr. Brown at his 84th memorial birthday celebration. I was surprised that I didn't know this man before.
Mr. Brown is my example of Jesus that God wanted me to see. There are many examples around me and in the world, but this is the one that God wanted me to see and it touched me because I sought after it without even knowing. Thank you Lord for Rev. Mr. Abraham Brown for his legacy that still touches souls. “Only that which is done for Christ and the Kingdom of Heaven will last.” Now I can say that I appreciate the well deserving law, passed on August 10, 2012, that named the Hillsboro Tampa Post Office, the Reverend Abe Brown Post Office Building . . . because he DELIVERED THE GOSPEL, “The Love of Jesus Christ”.
Thank You Mr. Brown and Thank You God

Mr. Abe Brown, served me when I was an inmate in FCI, Lowell Florida. I enjoyed many of his teachings. Abe had a way with words and for that time I thought he was hip. Rest on Brother Abe I believe God is pleased.

I will forever be thankful to GOD for ALL the titles and gifts HE gave to Abraham Brown. I am grateful to his family for having shared their husband, and father. Also thankful to the community of brotherhood who came to know him, and celebrate the causes he represented. May his legacy live long, and prosper.

Abe was a great leader, and one of the best preachers I ever heard. He was an inspiration to all in the Tampa community, and will be greatly missed.
