Freddie Solomon is gone but not forgotten. I first met Fred in 1972 when Tampa and Kent State played in the Tangerine Bowl in Orlando, Kent alumni and football supporters stayed at the same hotel with the Tampa team and it was really an awesome time. It was at that time that I met John Matuzak, as he and Freddie played together at Tampa. Freddie kidded me about John during that week. Needless to say, Tampa beat us. So goes the game of football. As his football career moved ahead, Freddie was always gracious amd friendly, and took the time to sign autographs for kids and talk to fans.
Rest in peace Freddie. Go to the great football field of white and enjoy another game, with those who are waiting for you. Your family will miss you but will remember your courage, your love of life, your love of kids, and your commitment to living life to the fullest - to the end. Your presence was a gift in our lives.
May the white light of peace and the love of angels be with your family, the teams, the community, the kids and those who lives you touched.
