Tom, I just found out you died at 6:29 CST. My alarm clock has been going off at 6:29 every morning Monday Through Friday for 12 years. Knowing this now I will think of you every morning I wake up when I hear my alarm.

I spoke to you 6 weeks before you were taken. I told you I always credited you with saving my life one night in the middle of no where when I thought I was done from fighting with a man. You showed up like an Angel. I had no idea I had anyone coming.

You said you were coming home soon. It breaks my heart that you knew the day before that the Packers were going to the Super bowl. I know you planned on surprising your parents with a Super Bowl Party without telling them.

The Packers won my friend, but I know you had a hand in it. Thanks buddy
January 25, 2012
I probably only met you once, but I knew your parents. Regardless, there is a bond between law enforcement and a shared sadness between us all at the loss of a comrade. You clearly left a legacy and will not be forgotten. Chief Jerry Jansen (ret), Shorewwod Hills WI Police Dept.
January 23, 2012
Tommy we shared many a night shift laughing, scared silly and leaning on each other to get through. You are and always will be my bud and I think of you often my friend. Rest easy bro and hopefully we will meet again and have a beer. We all love you brother and miss you very very much. Lt. Mark Brown (ret) City of Madison Police Dept

Tom you are thought about every single day. I pray for your family and especially Paige. I remember the night you told me about meeting her and I will never forget it. You seemed so happy. We met on the steets of St. Pete just after we both got out of the academy. You were more than willing to always help out my Parole/Probation warrants and you and Yongblood were always rite there to assist. We became great friends and worked well together. We did what happened there all the time. We both came from Wisconsin about the same time, same age almost and we just clicked. Youngblood was rite there with ya. I will never forget those times we backed each other up and its a nightmaer what happened to you. I have spoken to Brian lately asking how Paige was doing and I want to send my prayers and thoughts to her and his family back up North. Tom was one of the best cops and always willing to help and do the right thing. I learned alot from him and I will never forget him or out time together. It is just unexplainable why this happened but God must have wanted the good guy back eaely for his reasons we got to trust but hard to understand. I must say I have never Never seen so many police cars in attendance for their funerals. It was a sight i will never EVER forget!! I wish I could do something to help Paige and Tom's family and maybe I can go with Brian someday for lunch or a visit together with Paige, Tom always talked about her and I feel I know her in a way. Life was just dealeta tough hand with the stroke so young but his strenght and determination was inspiring. I will always miss you Tom and my pin contriubting your life is displayed on my dash and I look at it all day lomg for inspiration to keep doing what you loved doing. Our times are precious and Tom is defunatley in Heaven rite now watching over us. And to Paige I woulg really like to help you out in any way, cut grass, fix car, ANYTHING! Brian Youngblood has my number so please call if you need anything, Scott Rogers, Former Parole Probation Officer, St. Pete vicinity. GOD BLESS PAIGE and TOM"S FAMILY UP NORTH in Wisconsin area. I was from Rockford and The Dells area....I think of him daily and you are all in my prayers and always will be. He was one of the best cops I knew!!!!

I worked with Tom as a Hand Therapist many years ago (1998)? , when he hurt his thumb during his work as a police officer. He was always smiling, jovial and just a genuinely nice man. We called him the "OKIE DOKIE MAN" as it was one of his favorite sayings.Heaven has been blessed to have his arrival. I pray for his wife's speedy recovery asI am sure he would not want you to grieve so much as to miss out on enjoying life as much as he did.

To Mrs. Baitinger and family:

We are so saddened for the loss of your courageous and heroic husband, Tom. He shall be remembered for the wonderful and faithful service he had given to the St. Pete's Police Force and the streets of the community. We, indeed, have lost a brave warrior. We did not have the honor and pleasure in knowing Tom. That doesn't matter, he was our Brother in Christ.
May the strength of Christ surround you in His loving presence and carry you through your pain, loss and grief. May your tears of suffering turn to tears of joy in the memories and love you have shared together.
We salute Police Officer Sgt. Thomas Baitinger...to express our appreciation for all he has done for us.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

God Bless you and your family. As a lifelong true native to St. Petersburg, I remember when Det. Sullivan died and I was hopeful that I could live the rest of my life here with my family and that my children would not know the pain of an entire community's suffering. I hope you can find some solace in knowing that we are behind you and hopefully our prayers can help you stand through this terrible ordeal. Thank you for the sacrifice you have made to protect us, you will never be forgotten.

I am so sorry. Tom was another "little brother" of mine growing up in Middleton; I look back now with a smile remembering his and my brother Dan's antics. Interrupting my dates, trying to enunciate "Nations shall praise him" on the altar at St. B's, that wonderful goofy smile... He was a great kid and a great man, I'm sure of that. Peace and comfort to Paige, the Baitinger family, and all of Tom's friends and co-workers.
January 27, 2011
I was watching the news one night and saw that there had been a man in the attic of a house. I had no clue that it would have escalated into such a situation as to where two police officers would have lost their lives. I feel very sorry for the two families affected by this and for their communities. I am 14 years old and I would like to thank them for their services, and again I am extremely sorry for all loses.
January 27, 2011

My prayers go out to Sgt Baitinger, his family and friends. I might share with you some words which have sustained me through long dark nights of peril, loss and heartache and I quote; "I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save.
I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom." Abraham Lincoln

My deepest sympathy goes out to the families of Officers Tom Baitinger and Jeffrey Yaslowitz.

I worked with Tom when he was with the Dane County Sheriff's Department and hold many fond memories of those days.

As Police Officers, we know and accept the risk of our chosen profession.

That still can't come close to lessening the sense of loss when such a tragedy occurs.

May you always be remembered as the heroes you were and for your dedication and self sacrifice.

My thoughts and prayers will be with you always.

We cannot begin to say how sad we are about this horrible event. Tom used to babysit our kids, Sue and Steve, in the summer when he was a teenager. We just saw him when he came home to visit his Mom and Dad in Dec. I got a big hug from him. Sue and Steve are devastated also. We will pray for all Tom's fellow officers, his wife, his Mom and Dad (Ken and Lu) and his sisters, Amy and Jane, and his brother, Mark. What a horrible waste of lives.

Two more brothers, called Home to duty. For their families, I pray for strength and faith and peace. The burden of their sacrifice is yours to bear. Know your pain is shared by far more than those who knew them, personally.

I was lucky. As a State Trooper assigned to Dane County, I spent many shifts "chasing bad guys" with Tom. We couldn't believe they PAID us to have that much fun! I missed Tom when he left ...
I hope he still felt that way.

Godspeed my friends, your work here was done. Say "hola" to Durkin for us, Tom.

SPPD, stay strong, stay safe. My heart goes out to you.

Our condolences and prayers go out to the family and friends of the two officers who died in the line of duty Monday. They are truly heroes.

My wife and I visited the St. Pete area last week and had the honor of seeing St. Pete officers doing their jobs, one who even stopped to re-fill the road crossing safety flags (outside the Publix Store, Treasure Island Gulf Blvd Sat. afternoon) which were missing from both sides of the street.

Our gratitude goes out to those who served while we were there and continue to serve to keep visitors and residents safe from harm and danger.

Please don't let this evil act take away from the blessing your city is to the world.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the slain police officers as well as the Federal Marshall who now lies in critical condition recovering from his gunshot wounds. For those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the protection of the common citizen, I offer this prayer to our Police Officers and Sheriffs: Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host - by the Divine Power of God - cast into hell, Satan and all the evil spirits, who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

The slaying of Tampa’s finest, David Curtis & Jeffery Cocab haunted our daily lives at the time of the slayings and for many months after! Now those feelings have been reopened yet again with two new officers. As a family member of a St. Petersburg Police Officer, this has brought home once again, the reality of their daily routine! Inside a police officers home we joke about this happening, but deep down inside we know it may very well happen to us some day! My family would like the family of the Slain officers to know, that they are not alone! When this happens, we ALL share your grief, but take comfort in the knowledge that they died doing what they loved, and boy do they love it! It’s what they do, protect the rest of us and ensure our streets are as safe as can be!

Condolences for our Fallen Heroes.

Once again our citizens of the Tampa Bay area mourn the loss of our two Fallen Heroes today. I woke up this morning to the shocking news. I cried and mourn for the two that were killed today. They were friends of my kids who are Police officers. My daughter's former Sargent was one of the Fallen Officers, and the other Fallen officer played football with my son in law who is also a Police officer. These brave men were good, upstanding, church going, family men. Two bright lights, once again snuffed out. My heartfelt condolences go out to the families of these two brave men. My prayers are with them.

SGT Baitinger, thank you for all you've done for me. It was only the other day we had a nice conversation. You were always smiling, always approachable and just fun to be around. You were caring and helpful and genuinely wanted to see people succeed. It was truly an honor to get to know you and work with you. I was at the hospital today and did my best to keep my composure, I just couldn't any longer as you and OFC Yaslowitz were driven past. My prayers go out to both families. OFC Yaslowitz, I know we've been on a few calls together, I never really got to know you, but always trusted you had my back when you were there. I wish I could've returned the favor and had been there for you.

For many years,?
These officers have answered the call?

While some of us were in our beds at night,?
These officers answered the calls

While some of us were in school learning our trade,
?These officers answered the calls

Yes...even before some of us were born into this world,?
These officers answered the calls

Many times he would cast an eye and see his family standing there,
?Needing his guidance and help,?
Needing that hand to hold during those hard times,?
But they still answered the calls

They answered the calls for many years,?
They answered the calls so that we, our families,
?And our fellow neighbors could sleep soundly in safety,?
Each and every night,
?Knowing that an officer was answering the calls

Today we are here to say:?
"Brothers…your shift has been relieved.?
Relieved by those YOU have trained, guided, and lead?
Brothers you stand relieved...we will answer the calls!"

Rest in peace Tom and Jeff.

I would like to wish the Baitinger and Yaslowitz family, close friends and the Saint Petersburg Police Department my condolences. It is always a sad and gloomy day when you lose a brother in law enforcement to an unfortinate tragedy. I wish this never happened, but when your in law enforcement, you know that every day is never the same, and that when you put on that uniform, vest, and duty belt, there is always a chance that you might not come home. They didn't do their job for the money, they did their job for the greater good, to help people that couldn't help themselves, people that needed help, and for that, everyone who knew Officers Tom Baitinger and Jeffrey Yaslowitz should hold their heads high because they died doing what they loved to do, and they are in heaven with the Lord. I am a law enforcement officer in New York State but also live down in Saint Petersburg as well, and I would like to commend the Saint Petersburg Police Department on what a fine job that our brothers and sisters have been doing day in and day out. You do your jobs with courtesy, respect and professionalism. Keep it up.
