Jonathan Rossi Obituary

Jonathan Rossi, of Safety Harbor, joined the Army to see new countries, be his own man and make his own way in the world, his father said. Rossi, 20, died Sunday, July 1, from wounds received when insurgents attacked his unit in Iraq using improvised explosive devices and small-arms fire.

for Jonathan Rossi

Not sure what to say?

While attending a charity event titled "Boots on the Ground" on Saturday, May 12, 2018 in Jacksonville, FL I came upon a table called "Adopt a Hero". They asked if I would like to pick one of the fallen soldiers out to honor their memory and keep it alive by posting pictures at facebook.com/adoptahero. I randomly chose Jonathon. Reading more about him here at legacy.com confirms what is so true about all of these young heroes. His memory will be kept alive proudly as my band tours and performs far and wide. Always a reminder of his sacrifice and the freedom he preserved for all of us and to do what I love for a living. RIP Jonathon.

I am so proud of the man you became and I watch it every day when I look at my own son and watch him live your dream. Please watch over him and keep him safe.

My Son,

I can't believe this is the 6th yr anniversary of your passing. Time continues to stand still, and I am still grieving and probably will for the rest of my days. I look at your pictures EVERY day, and think about the times we had together. The 4th of July holidays are supposed to be a joyous time, celebrating this country's freedom, but for me it has a whole new meaning. I MISS YOU SO MUCH AND NOT A DAY GOES BY WHERE I DON'T THINK OF AND TALK ABOUT YOU. You are forever in my heart, my mind and my soul. I LOVE YOU

Johnathan,
When you were assigned to 1st platoon with a bunch of tankers you probably would have preferred to stay with your infantry unit, but you never indicated anything less than full commitment, giving 110% every day. NCOs like SGT Supeck are among the finest in the Army and Johnathan couldn't have asked for a better SGT as a mentor and advocate. I was not present on July 1st but wish I could have been. I was at home on leave, my absence that day has never sat well with me. Johnathan, I'll never forget your contributions to 1st Platoon and your sacrifice.

You and your family will always be in my heart. SSG. Sanchez

Jonathan,
We remember that awful day when we learned of your death. How incredibly sad we all were...for not only your loss but your Dad and brothers' grief. So much has happened in our family since you left us, we only wish you were here to experience it all. Thank you for your dedication to the mission and your willingness to do what so many will not or cannot. Thanks, too, to all our troops both gone and yet to come home.
We love you and think of you daily.

Mr. Rossi,

I learned about your son this evening as I reviewed an article in the TAMPA BAY TIMES, "Tampa Bay Troops killed in Iraq and Afghanistan".

"Your son's blue star turned gold, July 1, 2007. Jonathan answered the service call, his sacrifice was made for all....his gold star is symbolic of a Patriot's honor and a Nation's love. Now, we left behind proudly wear that star of Gold."

Sgt. Speck,
Don't you dare be sorry for something that was beyond your control! The enemy got Jonathan, don't let them get into your head and get you too. We, his family, will be forever grateful that he had such good friends while over there.

Stand proud and be proud that you were such a good friend to him. We salute you for that.

to Sgt.Supeck....you have nothing to be sorry for young man, you fought bravely for our country and that is all we can ask. Please don't carry this burden any longer. You and Jonathan both protected each other as best you could, but some things are out of your control. I will not offer you forgiveness as there is nothing to forgive. I WILL offer you my thanks, love and prayers for your healing. If it helps you, know this...my son has entered Virginia Military Institute in hopes of following his cousin's footsteps to secure our nation and serve his country...He had the date of Jonathan's death tattooed on his back as reminder of his sacrifice. THIS is also Jonathan's legacy. I know I can speak for our family when I say "thank you" for all you did and attempted to do.
Go in peace, dear soldier, and lift the burden that only you have placed on yourself.
We can never repay you.

Today there was a "Run for the Fallen" in Tampa, I walked for your son. It was an honor to walk for him and for you to know he is not forgotten. I am grateful for your son's service and your sacrifice for our freedom.

My son is in the Marines, recently graduated form Parris Island. He loved me to send him quotes in my letters to him. The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Dear Jonathan, I have, thus far, avoided this message, because the idea of never seeing you or talking to again is just painful. I remember so many things about your life, your mom, your dad (my brother), Jason, Jordan, Mikayla, etc. But most fondest memory is when you and Jason spent the week with Uncle Jessee and I and we played "Spades" on my deck, (you cheater) but we won anyway..., bowling at the Rossi Chirstmas week, throwing ball with you and Jason during the week I was in FL. during your mom's death... dude... I don't know what else to say, only that I think about you everyday, cuz I have your pic as my desktop backround on my work pc... I love you and will never ever let you forget me.... I hope you are taking care of your mom up there, like I needed to say that? God bless you...

As our nation pauses to celebrate Thanksgiving Day, I stop to remember and give thanks to God for the incredible sacrifice that Jonathan made for his country and for our freedom. It was my honor to have concelebrated his funeral Mass, and to have known both his father and mother (Myrna) while I was stationed at MacDill AFB. That young boy grew up to be a fine man, a brave soldier, and now a fallen hero. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

I attended high school with Jonathan and three of his siblings, two of whom are my age. I wish I had known Jonathan better. I was just checking out his myspace page, and in a survey, when asked how he wanted to die, his response was "in the field." Serving our country was his pride and joy. Although I didn't know him well, I am proud to have known him at all. It is comforting to know that someone so dedicated was protecting our freedom, and will continue to do so from Heaven. The Rossi/Reif family will remain steadfast in my thoughts and prayers.

We are so saddened for the loss of your son, we have a son inlisted in the Marine Corp and can only imagine what you must be feeling and going through. My prayer is that you all feel the arms of God and know that many people care about what you are going through and that your son will live on in the memory of thousands.

To Jonathan's family and friends,
My son Brian (a navy veteran)and I were both honored to "stand" for PFC Rossi and to walk behind you at Bushnell on Wednesday. We are free because of Jonathan and the others before him who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. My husband did two tours in Nam and my godson (a Marine) lost his sight in Baghdad in 2005. We know the cost and we thank you and Jonathan.

In addition to being a dedicated soldier, Jonathan was a dedicated Jiu-Jitsu fighter. I would like to take a moment to extend the sympathy of the entire Tampa Gracie Jiu-Jitsu association. He was a great kid and a friend to all of us. He will be missed by all of us.

To the Rossi Family,
I am not too good with writing regarding sympathy. So please excuse it. I didn't really know Jon too well but what I do remember was a very nice, respectable young man. He was not just a hero to you or to me but to our country. And I thank you for having a son that is so dedicated to his country and what he believes in. I don't know what it is like to loose someone so close to you. I can only imagine. If there is anything I can do please let me know. I live right around the corner.

--As for Liz I am very sorry you lost the one that you loved and wanted to be with for the rest of your life. Everytime I would look at you and saw your pain I thought to myself, is that what I would be like if I lost my significant other? I am so thankful that my love didn't go. I don't know what I would do if I lost him. All I can say is just keep your head up and think positive. Life is not over not ever. If you need anything please let me know as well.
Deepest sympathy, Nicole Curl
